KeymasterInternational Monetary Fund (IMF) unveiled a $50bn proposal to end the COVID-19 pandemic by vaccinating at least 40 percent of the population in all countries by the end of 2021 and at least 60 percent by the first half of 2022.

A price worth paying or a cost too high.
IMF says it would inject the equivalent of $9 trillion into the global economy.

KeymasterOne option from ‘A Land for All movement’.
https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/may/21/israel-palestine-confederation
an Israeli-Palestinian confederation, entailing the following principles:
Two independent states, Israel and Palestine, along the 1967 borders.
A federated structure with shared institutions governing human rights, security, the economy and other issues of mutual interest.
Open borders and freedom of movement for the citizens of both states, who can live anywhere they’d like.
Jerusalem will be an open city, the capital of both states, overseen by a joint municipal government. And the counter-argument
https://www.972mag.com/confederation-israel-palestine-obstacles/
While the two-state solution does not enjoy the same popularity today that it did 10 years ago, Israelis and Palestinians generally understand the concept even though their vision for precise parameters may vary… the same cannot be said for confederation.

KeymasterIs there any advantage in following the Official Loonies with multi candidates? I can’t see any, myself.
As for the TUSC, the number of candidates they stood does suggest they have a substantial membership and have built an infrastructure that does indicate that if they are in the same league they seem much higher up in it than ourselves.

KeymasterCeasefire … until the next time.
Hopefully, future developments will be centred upon dismantling apartheid nature of Israel.
I have been thinking about Pilger’s argument that the occupation justifies the right of resistance i.e. rockets. But the dilemma is that by defending the armed struggle directly weakens the rights of those who seek to wage non-violent resistance using general strikes and civil disobedience.
I’m swayed by the arguments i seen that Hamas real motive in militarising the struggle is to ensure it retains partisan political control over possible rivals and i don’t mean Abbas and PA but those that possess the latent potential power – the Palestinian-Israelis as explained in the video by their integration within Israel’s economy.

KeymasterAlways useful to have a first-hand account of apartheid Israel to use when online debating.

50% of Palestinian families in Israel live below the poverty line – and although we make up, as of 2009, around 20% of the population, we account for 50% of the prison populationalanjjohnstone
KeymasterThe problem was partially that many weren’t Jewish under religious rules. i recall a story from years back that some Russian Israeli started a neo-nazi youth gang.
But i don’t think the return of refugees will not have its problems.
In lesser numbers were the assimilation of the Ethiopian Jews, the Falasha, which was even more culturally harder aside from the language problems facing the Russians and there are still problems of racism involved resulting in the sporadic protest.
The question is are they unsurmountable problems or not? The point being that Israel has experience of large numbers of immigrants arriving and has a basic infrastructure to deal with such. Where’s there a will there is a way.

KeymasterHaving listened i agree that it is a very insightful interview with important ramifications for a One-State.
I would think the use of imported labour may mitigate the need for unskilled West Bank daily workers. Two Thais are in the recent death-toll from the missiles.
I note again that more important than Hamas rockets are the continuing protests and strikes in Jerusalem and West Bank.
