Jennifer Lopez started the festivities off with a rendition of Woody Guthrie’s This Land is Your Land…but, of course did not sing all the relevant and pertinent verses of the original
As I was walkin’ – I saw a sign there
And that sign said “No trespassin'”
But on the other side …. it didn’t say nothin!
Now that side was made for you and me!
In the squares of the city – In the shadow of the steeple
Near the relief office – I see my people
And some are grumblin’ and some are wonderin’
If this land’s still made for you and meJanuary 20, 2021 at 5:03 pm #212717

You Tube was very quick to delete the video of a song…Just what copyright does the ceremony of a presidential inaugeration have?January 21, 2021 at 8:09 am #212743robbo203Participant
Now that Biden is President, all those people – like our friend Leon Trotsky on this forum – who urged us to vote for him on the grounds that he was the so called lesser evil, have made things very difficult for themselves to start criticising Biden with any kind of moral authority. They got the President they wanted and campaigned for. Shit sticks as the saying goes.
“Lesser evil-ism” is a very very bad argument and puts you in a very weak and invidious position afterwards. In one year’s time those people who urged us to vote Biden will be whinging about what an obnoxious bastard he is as he predictably carries out what capitalism (inevitably) bids him to. Soon enough he will metamorphize into a greater evil himself and his disappointed voters will search around for some other saviour to take up the reins of the “lesser evil”. Its either that or the attraction of another Trump like figure will grow as people get tired of and disenchanted with Biden. Lesser evil-ism almost always tends to pave the way for greater evil-ism
At least socialists can hold their heads up high having stuck to our guns and refusing to support any of the spokespeople of capitalism. In the long run being principled on this point is the only thing that makes any sense.January 21, 2021 at 9:29 am #212745
Been watching some progressive commentaries on You Tube and the liberal holding Biden’s feet to the fire to push him to the left already seems a distant memory. They are suggesting a psychological strategy of ‘positive reinforcement’ for his ‘good intentions’.
They are extolling him as the modern-day FDR and he has not yet announced a substantial reform other than executive orders to undo Trumpo’s executive orders.
When he does get round to having to get Congress approval for future legislation, i’m fairly confident in making the prediction it will be a watered-down version designed to receive Republican Party support.
“Lesser evil-ism” is a very very bad argument…
Nevertheless and very importantly, it is one of the most effective arguments we face and we have been confronted with those since our foundation from the gradualists of the labourites and then the bolshevised ‘communists’. We still hear it today from the environmentalists who demand regulatory laws. The welfare statists has now had new life breathed into them with the pandemic.
The fact that hospitals were built and factories re-tooled for PPE all in a matter of days hasn’t been taken aboard by those who say socialism is utopian and a far-off aspiration. I mentioned it someplace that we have to use the lessons of the pandemic in bringing social and cooperative relationships to the forefront must be fully taken advantage of by ourselves. We must collate the messages of hope of which there are many of mutual aid and promote them. Food banks, for instance, is all about distribution according to need, and providing essential services is all about from according to ability.January 21, 2021 at 7:39 pm #212769james19Participant
Return to the WHO. Revoke laws on Trans people serving in the military. Pledged to commit to Paris climate Accords. Stop building the Mexico wall. Reversing a travel ban to mainly Muslin and African countries.
My apologies the WSJ might have a paywall?January 21, 2021 at 7:51 pm #212775james19Participant

Push-back against Lopez and her song by the indigenous peoples of America.
Benny Wayne Sully, who is Sicangu Lakota and lives in Los Angeles. “But does anybody believe this land was made for you and me? Or was it made for white folks? And now some so-called leftist groups or protesters ( nobody knows who really they are ) are against Joe Biden and the centrists and they are asking for revenge. The nation of the political confusions and conspiracy theoriesJanuary 23, 2021 at 3:50 am #212830
An interesting article which says that Biden’s healthcare plan is the one that the private medical insurance corporations wished to seek.
Plenty of presidential executive orders …but the big ones to expand Medicare during the pandemic, using emergency provisions in the Affordable Care Act and to expand Medicaid to cover more people, so far silence.January 23, 2021 at 8:22 am #212831ALBKeymaster

The US miltary already responds to the arrival of Biden? Perhaps it is coincidental, perhaps it isn’t.
US convoy enters Syria from Iraq with fresh logistics.
At the same time, 200 US troops arrived in the Hasakeh province on helicopters set to be deployed at the nearby oilfields.

The USA left singing the same old song in regard to the government of Joe Biden to try to push a capitalist leader toward the left. If principles are incorrect it does not make any difference how many books you write or publish
