Is there a link to the leaflet, or a photo(s) of it please, for use on social media? Thanks.

Someone asked if we had an Instagram account. I was going to give them that link, but it was not working. Looked like the account may have been closed by the previous creator(?). I have just reopened it using the same name https://www.instagram.com/socialistpartyofgreatbritain/ so no one else could appropriate it. I hope this is okay. If someone wants to manage this account, I have emailed the log in details to head office.

A pre-recorded interview with Andy Thomas, SPGB candidate in Folkestone & Hythe, was shown on BBC South East Today, this afternoon, following the candidates representing the Conservatives, Greens, Lib Dems and Labour being questioned together, live, by the programme’s host. http://www.facebook.com/socialistpartyofgreatbritain/videos/1831499256994149/ (recorded from a TV).

I still don’t feel like anything the Party is doing is actually making any difference.

For what it’s worth, the SPGB Twitter account has over 26,800 ‘followers’ — almost 500 of which ‘joined in’ during the last 28 days. See the latest Twitter analytics

Just had a request by an LBC producer hoping to discuss the Venezuela situation with someone from the SPGB around 9pm tonight. Anyone up for it?

Couple of private Twitter messages received from the same person, 34 minutes apart.

“Dear Socialist Santa, was wondering if you would pay for my mum to get her nails and hair done + car valeted she can’t afford it because of those right wing leeches in office making us work. Oh and she wants some alcohol for Christmas – champagne and none of the cheap stuff please. x”

    Then.

“Ok I just went to your website and I take that back you seem like a good bunch and I really enjoyed the ethics article as I found it a great read. I’ve taken myself on a real roller coaster road tonight. At first I believed it was just light hearted fun to point at the silly socialists and laugh but as I stood brushing my teeth and looking into the mirror it occurred to me that you are humans, just like me, with thoughts and beliefs that you firmly stand by, and who am I to decide what’s right and what’s wrong? One day we will all be dead and it doesn’t matter if we are a socialist or a capitalist, as we are humans. It doesn’t matter if you are dogs, cats, mice, elephants or the SNP. We all share this planet and if we allow ourselves to be taken in by divisive politics which will never allow us to bond then why are we here. Thank you, The Socialist Party. You have really helped me to look inside myself tonight. Why was I poking fun at you? Why do you deserve it? Was I doing it because I have been hurt myself? The best feeling in the world is to feel loved and I wish that everybody could feel it. I may not agree with your political views but we can still love one another and live in harmony as human beings. Socialists were born into a family with a mother and a father the same as I, a capitalist, right leaning individual. We both grew up in the same country, on the same planet and both grew up and learned about the world and as we learned we obviously went down our different ideological routes. I shall be looking forward to further updates. Please let your associates know that I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and that you have success at the next general election. I wish you all well. Take care. – Your friend, J**** A****, ***********, East Yorkshire”

Hello all!January 1st seems like a good time to change the pinned tweet on the SPGB Twitter account to one which points out what socialism is, and asks people to ‘like’ the tweet if it is something they would prefer to have. It is hoped that, over time, a sizeable number of likes will be achieved, which can then result in some media interest, one way or another. This graphic will be accompanied by the following three tweets:We want to know how many people aware of our account, or who chance upon it, would like genuine socialism (see graphic for explanation). If you would prefer to live and work in this new society, rather than continue living under capitalism, please like (and RT) this pinned tweet. 1/3Socialism can’t be achieved until a clear majority of people know what it is, and want this alternative to capitalism. Although we are only a small political party in Britain, the number of people liking the pinned tweet will provide some useful data about socialism’s popularity. 2/3Due to decades of anti-socialist propaganda by newspapers etc, there’ll be the usual replies mentioning Venezuela, Cuba, Soviet Union, N. Korea etc; or insisting that socialism is impossible due to “human nature” etc. We ask these people to see our website http://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/questions-and-answers-about-socialism 3/3
