Taking the BDS campaign on to the football field is anti-semitic.Avigdor Lieberman, defence minister, wrote on Twitter: “It is a shame that the football nobility from Argentina didn’t withstand the pressure of the inciters and haters of Israel whose only goal is to harm our basic right to self-defence and bring about the destruction of Israel. We will not surrender in the face of a group of antisemites and terror supporters.”https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/israel-argentina-cancels-match-world-cup-2018-fifa-palestine-lionel-messi-a8386536.htmlRather than the Palestinian's who politicalised the football match, Israel moved the game to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv and incorporated it into the 70th Anniversary celebrations

The supreme court has dismissed the latest attempt to overturn Northern Ireland’s restrictive abortion laws but nonetheless concluded that they are incompatible with human rights.By a narrow majority of four to three, justices at the UK’s highest court said it had no jurisdiction to consider the latest legal challenge because there was no actual or potential victim of an unlawful act involved in the case.A majority of judges, however, went on to add that Northern Ireland’s abortion law was incompatible with the right to respect for private and family life as guaranteed by the European convention on human rights.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jun/07/supreme-court-dismisses-bid-to-overturn-northern-ireland-abortion-laws

Gordon Brown calls for immigration restrictionshttps://www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/jun/05/gordon-brown-calls-for-tougher-controls-on-migrationBrown said the referendum result was a revolt against the political, business and cultural establishment and it was a mistake to dismiss the 52%-48% result as false consciousness. Brown presented a six-point plan for dealing with concerns about migration: no undercutting of wages by migrants; registration of jobs to give local people a chance to apply; registration of migrants on arrival in the UK; possible removal of migrants if they failed to find a job within nine months; a ban on employment agencies advertising jobs abroad that had not been advertised in the UK; and a bigger fund to help mitigate the impact of migration on local communities.

i recall reading an article about how Scottish teams don't lose money (or, at least, not very much money). Their income is not from gate receipts or sponsorship but simply by transfers – bringing on players and selling them on. It is indeed a flesh market industry.I have also read articles on how many just don't make it because of injury and they are simply discarded with very little industrial accident compensation. Our blog very recently highlighted the dementia risk of playershttps://socialismoryourmoneyback.blogspot.com/2018/05/dementia-risk-and-football.htmlAnd it has been in the news with Liverpool's goal-keeper suffering from a concussion.https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/44363648

You have captured my sentiment. Anarchism, Now! Anarchism, Forever!

I wonder if you have come across these 19thC observations by the author of 'The Nature of Human Brain Work' I find them still appropriate for today's times.

    Quote:
"The terms anarchist, socialist, communist should be so "mixed" together, that no muddlehead could tell which is which. Language serves not only the purpose of distinguishing things but also of uniting them- for it is dialectic." June 9, 1886"For my part, I lay little stress on the distinction, whether a man is an anarchist or a socialist because it seems to me that too much weight is attributed to this difference…..While the anarchists may have mad and brainless individuals in their ranks, the socialists have an abundance of cowards. For this reason, I care as much for one as the other…The majority in both camps are still in great need of education, and this will bring about a reconciliation in time"- April 20, 1886"If a worker wants to take part in the self-emancipation of his class, the basic requirement is that he should cease allowing others to teach him and should set about teaching himself." – Joseph Dietzgen

two studies now show that the decidedly pro-Zionist course pursued by some conservative governments overshadows a latent anti-Semitism that is inherent, at least in part, in many right-wing governments in Eastern Europe. Paradoxically, this has led to a pro-Zionist standpoint mixed with anti-Semitic motives.

Unfortunately, the sources of those two studies was not given but it seems to reflect a Ken Livingstone position, doesn't it?http://www.dw.com/en/angela-merkel-benjamin-netanyahu-set-to-meet-amid-tensions/a-44059909

Netanyahu has embarked on a three-day trip to Europe to push leaders in Germany, France and Britain away from the Iran nuclear deal. Netanyahu flew on Monday morning to Berlin, where he is due to meet Angela Merkel, before flying to Paris to speak with Emmanuel Macron on Tuesday. He will then travel to Britain for a meeting with Theresa May.“I will meet there with three leaders and will discuss two subjects: Iran and Iran,” he said.Meanwhile, the director general of the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said his inspectors had access to all the sites his team needed to visit in Iran.  Yukiya Amano rebutted suggestions that Iran was not cooperating.https://www.theguardian.com/world/2018/jun/04/israels-netanyahu-on-europe-trip-to-lobby-leaders-against-iran

Hmmm…all down to semantics it seems…definitions.Revolutionaries separated by a common language…to paraphrase an idiom I recall Marx (or someone) saying you cannot determine the cause of a slump except by looking back at it after the event. If we could forecast the bubbles bursting we would all be very rich comrades

Oh, don't people enjoy indulging in very flowery fancy invective on this thread…Let's have comradely debate and less combative hyperbole.

A very extensive reading list can be found here, scroll down to the Bund sectionhttps://www.marxists.org/subject/jewish/I fully recognise the limitations of the SS article but the main purpose was simply to demonstrate that there existed a popular Jewish movement outside of Zionism which was left-wing and part of the social democracy of the period and that the state of Israel was never the be all and end all of the Jewish people. Bund history if not forgotten has often been misinterpreted.   As for its nationalism, we have to remember that Jewish pales and ghettoes were well-defined territories for a Party to organise on the basis of. We also got to remember the importance of Yiddish as the lingua franca of many geographically diverse Jewish communities.
