ParticipantIt says a lot about what living under capitalism does to people that, according to Care Alert, billions have watched animal torture online.

ParticipantMost people do not know that we came from the same world; we are just a combination of prior evolution

ParticipantNot quite the same, but what about this?

ParticipantIn China, they have farms for camels, horses and donkeys, and they are killing thousands of them every year, and it is a business that produces billions of dollars

ParticipantAnd if it’s true that billions watch torture for fun, that too means there is profit in it.

ParticipantEverything in this stupid society has a profit motive

ParticipantThe last of the bonobos, the gentlest of our closest relatives, are now being made extinct.

Bonobos. We are next to go extinct due to capitalism, and millions of people continue loving capitalism and the capitalists

ParticipantI have a neighbour whose dog goes berserk barking at anyone including young children that uses the public footpath, her front garden faces the walk way!
Unfortunately a local takeaway restaurant wouldn’t be interested in her mutt.
That aside. I saw that story and I didn’t want to read it. Usually I see a story of someone who has been arrested, just skim through it, and wished I hadn’t.

ParticipantYour point is?
1. You dislike dogs.
2. Your quip about a restaurant is aimed at upsetting me?
3. Conclusion: It’s no concern to socialists what is done to other animals, only to humans?
I know this sort of “socialist” alright. One who mocks and diminishes another’s sensibilities, even a socialist’s, who is meant to be a comrade.

ParticipantPeople need to control their pets, a dog in this instance. Allowing it to traumatise children is not on in any circumstances.
China has a dog meat market. There are people in China on YouTube who campaign to save dogs from slaughter, the meat market, they also ask for donations.
Yesterday I watched in horror a big dog that attacked a guy who was about to get off of him. Police shot it dead.
Does the dog deserve a medal or something?

ParticipantIs animal torture something to minimise with jokes?
What has a dog attack got to do with it? It is totally irrelevant, unless you are saying that keeping dangerous dogs justifies animal torture.
It is the people who have dangerous dogs who brutalise them, use them for dog-fighting etc.How does this justify what this thread is about? Why joke about serving up dogs in restaurants? The dog meat business involves execrable torture, with clubs and blowtorches. Their bones are broken and their genitals torched whilst they are alive and hoisted.
Is this funny? How are people watching torture justified?
You use irrelevancies and jokes where things are not connected at all. What has the shooting of an attacking dog got to do with this thread. Because Ciutadin and I are appalled by torture and mass killing we are supposed to be in favour when humans suffer violence, are we?
So, humans and other species are a case of “us vs them”?

ParticipantDogs are very useful animals. In Venezuela, they are used to find people after earthquakes, doing a much better job than the government officials, and they have saved the lives of several small children. Too bad they are being turned into drug addicts to be used in the airports by the drug enforcement agencies. Many dogs were killed and used for medical experiments, but because of them, the first heart transplants were done and saved the lives of thousands of children

ParticipantI don’t think your numbers actually add up at all.
“billions have watched animal torture online”.
If as you say that billions (i.e. two or more billion people) have been watching animal torture that would mean that at the very least nearly 1 in 4 people of the world’s population of 8.1 billion people are watching animal torture. Taking this even further an estimated 2.2 billion of the world’s population have no access to the internet, leaving approximately 5.9 billion people have access to the internet. This would mean that more than 1/3 of the people who are connected to the internet are watching animal torture. Going further approximately 14% of the world’s population are aged under 8 years old (UNICEF Data). So that figure of 6 billion people would come down to a little less that 5 billion people who are likely to have access to the internet are likely to have the wherewithal to access animal torture due to age. You can reduce that figure even further by introducing the fact that at least 1% of the population have dementia (WHO figures) and the fact that globally it is estimated that approximately 2.2% of the world’s population have either a moderate or profound Learning Disability, i.e according to WHO definitions they have an IQ of less that 49. Add to that the 22% of the world’s population who are either vegetarian or vegan and your (or rather the figures/organisation you quote) are starting to look pretty silly.
Billions of views do not in any way add up to “Billions have watched”
I would have thought that a thinking Socialist would have enough about them to at least question the figures they have been fed through alarmist reporting. It does little for the credibility of our case for socialism when we have members posting such clearly implausible nonsense on our forums
There are lots and lots of websites and supposed charities who are milking the good will of people for their own ends. Perhaps you should read through some of the sites below:

ParticipantYes you are correct. I should have said billions of views.
