KeymasterAnother father on the bus was teaching his little boy to shout football slogans. I wondered what mental tools he was being given.
Perhaps they were “good catholic” football teams like Celtic or Hibernian?

KeymasterAnother pretext?
Israel’s environmental protection minister has said Iran was responsible for a recent oil spill that ravaged its shores and has claimed the incident was a form of “environmental terrorism”. Her ministry had identified a Panama-flagged tanker called Emerald, which was smuggling oil from Iran to Syria in breach of international sanctions.

KeymasterAs i have conceded, the intricacies of carbon trading confuses me but this report appears to pour cold water on its effect.
A 600% rise in carbon prices is required
“To be on a 1.5-degree pathway, carbon support prices will need to reach $160 per tonne of carbon dioxide by 2030,” said Wood Mackenzie’s Asia Pacific head of markets and transitions Prakash Sharma. As of the end of last year, the global average carbon price across various regimes stood at $22 per tonne of carbon dioxide, he said.

KeymasterOver three days — during the wolves’ breeding season — hunters killed 216 wolves out of Wisconsin’s estimated 1,000 wolves. The quota for state’s whole wolf hunting season had been at 119 wolves. Eighty-one other permits were set aside for Ojibwe tribes.

KeymasterThe International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor has opened a formal investigation into alleged war crimes in the Palestinian territories.
Netanyahu’s response is that the probe was an anti-Semitic attack on the only Jewish state.
“the essence of anti-Semitism and the essence of hypocrisy.”
“It found that our brave and moral soldiers, who are fighting the most brutal terrorists on earth, are, of all people, war criminals. The court, which was established to prevent a recurrence of the horrors perpetrated by the Nazis against the Jewish people, is now turning against the state of the Jewish people.”
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-56249927
The investigation is dual-purpose. To investigate Israel’s transgressions and also those of the PA and Hamas.
Once again the hypocrisy is Netanyahu’s who appears to support one of the IHRA definitions of anti-semitism – “Drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.”
But has no compunction in accusing others of being like Nazis

KeymasterCan it be done under capitalism?
Carbon dioxide emissions must fall by the equivalent of a global lockdown roughly every two years for the next decade for the world to keep within safe limits of global heating, research has shown.
Lockdowns around the world led to an unprecedented fall in emissions of about 7% in 2020, or about 2.6bn tonnes of CO2, but reductions of between 1bn and 2bn tonnes are needed every year of the next decade to have a good chance of holding temperature rises to within 1.5C or 2C of pre-industrial levels, as required by the Paris agreement.
Dave Reay, a professor of carbon management at the University of Edinburgh, said: “Already there are signs that instead of build back better, it is more often a case of build back, whatever. If we are to have any chance of getting back on track to meet the Paris goals, the route out of the pandemic must be both global and green.”

KeymasterThe Socialist Party has not tolerated any cult of leaders. The reputation of a person as a member of a party may not be compatible with his or her character in personal relations. We have in our mind instances of persons who have been for years hard workers for the cause, whose party activities have been unimpeachable, but who are nevertheless sometimes awkward to get on with in private life or indulged in some sort of inappropriate personal behaviour.
Scots have already witnessed the demise of the Scottish Socialist Party partly due to character flaws in Tommy Sheridan, its leader, and the legal decisions of the courts were a lesser element in the changed attitude towards it. Although a socialist would suggest its failure to deliver its reform platform may have been the main factor.
It is why we built the party where all power rest in its collective membership and not upon the qualities or reputations of individuals.
