The Newcastle Day school on the 5th May has now been arranged as follows: “Q. Does {Momentum} + {Force} = {Power}?” “Losing Momentum: must the left fail again?” In this talk, the history of attempts – both successful? and otherwise – to reform capitalism are discussed to try and gain an understanding of how Jeremy Corbyn and Momentum might fare if they gain power.“Capitalism, Post-Capitalism and Socialism” This talk tries to understand the social system that Momentum are seeking to challenge, looks ahead to some of the alternatives to capitalism that are proposed and discusses the pros and cons of each. The speakers are Brian Gardner and Cliff SlapperVenueThe North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical EngineersNeville HallWestgate RoadNewcastle upon TyneTyne and WearNE1 1SEDoors open at 2,30. 1st speaker 3.00pm. close at 6.30pm. We are also hoping to get a speaker from Momentum to put their side of the debate, more news on this when we have it.The venue is literally 1 minutes walk from Newastle Central Station and a bar has been arranged, the support of comrades and sympathisers outside of the area would be gratefully received as we try to kick start the Socialist Party in the North east.

I will be present at the meeting. I think my sister and a comrade may also attend. The may day rally at exhibition park newcastle  should be on the 5th of may not far from westgate road a few hundred various lefties anarchists trade unions etc turn up, may be  a good idea to leaflet/ poster  the place. maybe even put up a table, try and persuade some of them to turn up at the miners hall. you never know jeremy might just turn up why not invite him? The first dozen through the door can grab a bottle of newcastle broon ale.Lets hope we are trampled in the rush. There must stll be a good few members and lapsed ex members in the n/e area lets hope the ones who are stll breathing make the effort to turn up. If anybody has their address lets make contact with them as some of them may not go on this forum and may have lost touch. this meeting  may just fire up and motivate the couch spuds. I would also like to thank Brian and Clifford for making the effort to travel up and speak at this meeting.

I must agree Joe Once a socialist always  a socialist. When the social blinkers are taken away there is no way back. We are to few on the ground to lose touch with each other, regardless of  a few differences, what we share in common is more important. I would love to meet up maybe later this year with the old comrades of north/east branch lets have a beer and a bit crack. To share a few hours with fellow workers who share a vision of a just society,  probably the closest i will ever get to that mythical place called heaven.

The point, surely, is that 'farming' under capitalism – for which read 'factory farming as an efficient means of maximising profits' is at once fucking up the planet and producing meat that is scarcely worth eating.  Most mass-produced supermarket meat is flavourless and almost entirely lacking in nutritional value.  The same is true, incidentally, of mass-produced fruit and vegetables.  Capitalism has produced an entire generation of people who simply don't have a clue what an apple or a tomato taste like, leave alone the explosive umami experience of a well-reared cow.  FFS!  Lots of people don't even know where their food comes from.  I think that it's mistaken to believe that there is any quantitative or qualitative difference between cow factory farming, sheep factory farming, chicken factory farming or fish factory farming.  It's all harmful, both to people and the environment and the only slightly-sentient creatures that it fucks about with. (If livestock were so clever it'd have a socialist party!)  From my point of view, socialism won't be socialism if it treats animals in the way that capitalism does.  So forget about your chicken nuggets and your beefburgers.  If they still exist after the revolution – except as a frozen exhibit in the museum of idiocy and total divorce from the concept of a food chain – it won't have been a revolution at all.  Human liberation equals animal liberation, it seems to me.  And I don't even like animals.  I like animals about as much as I like humans.  Which is to say, scarcely at all.  I'm not a vegetarian.  My attitude to food is simple.  If you speak to it and it can't answer then it's on the menu.  And that includes tabloid readers and the watchers of the X-Factor.  But you really shouldn't be eating that stuff unless you know where it came from.

Fuck me, someone who is as misanthropic as myself, Right on brother/sister. The only slight points of disagreement, beefburgers can be delicious, if made with properly produced beef, and you seem to rule out eating parrots. my socialist trained golden eagle only eats carrots and sprouts

This is where this thread should have been posted. It's a disgrace that the first thing people see at the moment when they visit this, our flagship forum is a thread about some insignificant individual. We had got rid of the pest and now we invite him back as top of the bill.

bird shit is useful, mix in your tomato trench.

Bob your cousin in the house of frauds may well be a decent chap maybe even a wonderful human bean  hp of course. Who can blame him £300 a day expenses with a subsidised bar and restaurant. It does not change the fact that the house of lords is one more example of this rotten stinking system.
