Trump’s “Collusion” and Corbyn as “Dangerous Hero”

Scroll down for Peter Oborne’s defence of Corbyn against smears.

“Dangerous Hero: Corbyn’s Ruthless Plot For Power, his new book on Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, contains numerous falsehoods. It systematically omits relevant facts in order to portray Corbyn as a ruthless Marxist and anti-semite hell-bent on destroying Western liberal values. The ugly truth is that Bower is not straight with his readers, let alone Corbyn. ‘Again and again he withholds relevant information, with the result that the Labour leader and his colleagues come over in the worst possible light…Bower has made an astonishing number of factual errors – more than I have ever come across in a book from a mainstream publisher…Time after time, Bower makes assertions that are not backed by any evidence…Bower’s book is not just intellectually dishonest, it is a farrago of falsehood and insinuation…British journalists need to ask themselves a question. Is there something rotten in British media discourse which allows someone like Bower to get away with this?…”

“…DSA members in Iowa, Elaine Godfrey, head of a Iowa chapter writes, don’t necessarily have an across-the-board view of exactly what “socialism” means—and “under the DSA umbrella,” she says, “one can expect to find all types of political philosophies, including Marxists, Leninists, communists and even libertarian socialists.”

But if all of these DSA members have something in common, according to Godfrey, it is that “socialism, to them, means a fairer world—one where every person is born with a guaranteed right to things like health care and education.”

Godfrey shows a contrast between Warren’s liberalism and DSA members. Warren is vehemently critical of crony capitalism and abuses in the banking sector but doesn’t consider capitalism itself to be the problem. And in contrast to Warren’s “capitalist to my bones” comment, Godfrey quotes Iowa-based DSA activist Rob Shaw as saying, without hesitation, “Fuck capitalism.”…”

At least 200 people have applied to stand as candidates for the new Independent Group if the UK takes part in European elections next month – amid growing signs that the contest could turn into a “proxy referendum” on whether to leave or remain in the EU. The 11 independent MPs will begin selecting candidates this week.

Media Smoothed Way to Corbyn Target Practice

Critical of the media’s  treatment of Corbyn

“…Just imagine a Labour MP being allowed to accuse Theresa May of being a fascist whose only goal is to destroy the country… They will use anything – from the murder of an MP to confections of anti-semitism and smears about treason – to incite against a democratic politician who threatens their domination of the political system.”

Alabama is proposing a law that would make carrying out an abortion at any stage of the pregnancy punishable by up to 99 years in jail. A doctor would commit a Class A felony if they were to perform an abortion.

The strict abortion ban would even criminalise performing abortions in cases of rape and incest. The legislation would only allow abortions in instances where there is “a serious health risk to the unborn child’s mother”.

The bill also equates legalised abortion likened having your pregnancy terminated to the Nazi campaign of extermination that led to the mass murders of Jews and others during the Holocaust.

The purpose of all these constitutionally illegal state laws against abortion is to channel court cases up to the US Supreme Court where it is expected that the now right-wing balance of it will reverse the Roe V Wade ruling.

The new darling of the American liberals is Pete Buttigieg. But how different is he?

Buttigieg did not meet with AIPAC last week; but he is strongly pro-Israel.

A year ago he visited Israel and decided that  Israel’s security arrangements were “moving” and “clear-eyed”, and that  the U.S. could learn something from them, and blamed Palestinians and Hamas for the “misery” in Gaza. He also faulted fellow Democrats for making snap judgments based on “90-second cable news versions of what’s going on over there.”

His visit was at the behest of the Jewish Federations of Indiana and the American Jewish Committee’s Project Interchange.

It also appears that the risk of division for Labour is wider than believed as this report suggests.

“…Labour is on the brink of a major bust-up if Jeremy Corbyn fails to demand a second referendum as the price for any Brexit deal struck with Theresa May….”

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/apr/03/muslims-jews-white-supremacists

“…A recent Pew survey of 15 western European countries found that “attitudes toward Jews and Muslims are highly correlated with each other. People who express negative opinions about Muslims are more likely than others to also express negative views of Jews.” In the US, a Gallup study in 2010found people “who say they feel ‘a great deal’ of prejudice… toward Jews are about 32 times as likely to report feeling ‘a great deal’ of prejudice toward Muslims”. Put simply, the kind of people who hate one of us are more likely to hate the other too… It is long past time that we Muslims and we Jews looked beyond our undeniable differences, recognise that we face a common and deadly threat, and agree there is only one way to fight it: together.”

    Sign of trend?

    https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/apr/03/americas-socialist-surge-chicago

Three Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) members won their Chicago city council races in runoff elections on Tuesday. They will join two other socialists who won the first round of elections outright in February.

“…Chicago’s socialist victories last night weren’t a fluke. Throughout the country, people are tired of low wages, soaring housing costs, privatization of public goods, budget cuts and corporate giveaways of public money. They have tried austerity and found it miserable. If Chicago’s elections are any indication, maybe they’re ready to try socialism.”

Perhaps we can understand this partisan article when the author is editor of Jacobin, but there is a trace of truth in that radical reformists are once more on the rise.

Yet again it confirms that there is a increasingly receptive audience to reach out to and hope for a few our genuine socialist message will resonate.

There is no doubt that Corbyn can talk the talk, just like Bernie Sanders. But we know it is all a matter of also walking the walk and we have yet to see either demonstrate that they can and from our knowledge of history, we know regardless of sincerity, they won’t be able too.
