The United States will demand Thursday that all United Nations sanctions be reimposed against Iran, Trump announced Wednesday, a move that follows America’s embarrassing failure to extend an arms embargo against Tehran.
Other nations claim the US has no standing to make the demand because Trump pulled the US out of the Iran nuclear deal two years ago. Members of the UN Security Council say the US no longer has any say regarding the Iran deal, the Trump administration argues that it retains its standing as an original participant in the accord and as a permanent member of the Security Council that endorsed the agreement. Trump said that when the United States entered the deal, it was clear that the US always would have the right to invoke a re-imposition of the UN sanctions.
Trump seeks to reimpose all UN sanctions against Iran under the so-called “snapback” mechanism that was approved with the 2015 nuclear deal between Tehran and six major powers. Under the deal, Tehran received billions of dollars in sanctions relief in exchange for curbs on its nuclear program. The “snapback” mechanism was created in the event Tehran was proven to be in violation of the accord. The administration’s position is that once it has notified the council that it is invoking “snapback,” all the UN sanctions will be reimposed in 30 days. That’s because the US would veto any resolution that attempts to prolong the sanctions relief. The administration’s view is that once those 30 days have passed, any country that doesn’t enforce the UN sanctions will be hit with US penalties for violating a binding UN Security Council action.
“This will be a fully valid enforceable Security Council resolution and we have every expectation that it will be enforced just like every other Security Council resolution that is in place,” said Pompeo
Could this be an election tactic of Trump – to take the USA to the brink of a military confrontation and play the patriot card?

As long as Chomsky and Sanders keep endorsing the Democratic Party and the progressives and the DSA keeps thinking it can influence its policies people will continue to vote for it. And when it fails to deliver, the alternative is to vote for the Republicans….and when they disappoint…back to the Democratic Party who have re-worded their same old promises.
We witnessed how the Establishment and the media will never countenance a British Labour Party led by even a moderate radical like Corbyn and as the internal report shows even its own senior officials and own MPs will sabotage its chances of being elected and preferred the Labour Party to implode. They saw any successes under Corbyn as failures.
But it is the chicken and the egg dilemma…without support, the mass socialist party will not come about…without the mass socialist party, support will not come about.

Neither this or DV are high traffic websites but every little helps to gain the WSPUS some name recognition. We also managed to get WSP (India) a plug.
More and more this election has nothing to do with any policy issues.
It is more and more an out-right referendum on Trump.
It will be about who gets their voter base out.

Hmm…a bit like robbing Peter to pay Paul, Janet. But it is the editors decision and i am sure they are aware of this piece.
I have submitted it to the progressive website Dissident Voice, hoping that they will give it a wider audience and a plug for the WSPUS, if they choose to re-publish. (I might also later send to Countercurrents who as you know may be receptive)
By referring to history, we hope that the relevance of it might be helpful for the BLM and the re-newed militancy that is taking place…and our time-honoured counsel to fellow-workers – don’t rely on any political leadership. Our very small contribution to what some call another “rebellion.”
It was entirely coincidental that Stephen and i had both written on the same topic so there must be a common strand of thought that traces back to these events.

If we cannot have a physical presence in political events, perhaps we might have, albeit a very small one, in the theory.
