By the way, if anyone is thinking about replying that a decision has now been reached and we should let sleeping dogs lie, think on this. If the outcome of the Party Poll had been accepted and not regurgitated at conference, we would not be engaged on this thread. Whats sauce for the goose etc etc!It must be galling to those Branches and members expelled in the 80's for not adhering to a decision made, to know that this decision is no longer in effect.

Hi Adam. I understand what you say, "However, these days, since every member votes on Conference motions the vote on them is virtually a Party Poll so a formal Party Poll is likely to have the same result. Though not necessarily since a Party Poll motion is subject to a much wider discussion and reflection by Party members."I tend to go with the last sentence of this paragraph. It would certainly appear that all it takes to overturn a decision not to the liking of some, is to continually bring it up at conference, over and over again. The restrictions on the use of the full name of the Party, was welcom to me at the time but as you say, has been gradually whittled away. Those of us who were delighted with the result of the Party Poll, should perhaps re engage and try to get the Party Poll result reinstated! I would certainly support such a move.

When I read the blogsite, I very rarely read an article that I don't find enjoyable, informative and useful. Moreover well written and put forward. A great big slap on the back to those who keep this site full of information.Steve Colborn.

I'm probably in a minority but I find multiple posts on the blogsite enjoyable. I have, over the last few months used various of them, to rewrite as letters to the press.A valuable central resource, which I am frequently telling the bloggers.

I agree that the use of the term, "Area of outstanding Natural Beauty", is merely a diliberate obfuscation. My point though is still valid. If, as they say, the Government discriminates between one area or another, even if it is only a deflection policy, why would fracking in one area be fine but there would be issues in another?

Human beings, to me, are not materialists. If one claims they are, then this means "every human", must follow this pattern! As a "human", I can truthfully and unequivocally state, I am not a materialist. I do not desire more and ever more material possessions. I desire food, enough to feed myself and my family. I desire clothing, enough to cloth myself and my family. I desire, or should I say, hope for, shelter and heating and lighting, in line with my and my familys needs. No more, nor less.To those who state, we are greedy and selfish, I am a prime example, that we are not.Steve Colborn.

It has been pointed out, quite explicitly actually, that shale gas exploration and extraction will not be allowed in areas of outstandinmg natural beauty. That begs the question, if it is as safe as some would have us believe, (extraction companies and the Government) why this caveat?Once again, these two are feeding the lie of secure energy resource and costomer price benefits. Any mineral extraction, will be sold on the world market, for the going price. It will be the same con as was perpetrated about nuclear power and North Sea gas. OOdles of "cheap" affordable power! It was a crock of shite then, it is a crock of shite now.

With what is evidentially occuring today, the expulsion of the said branches is now, a pointless exercise. With todays mindset, of using a variety of names, it would not have happened. At the time, the expulsions were more about the decision, not to accede to the will of the "majority" than anything else. It was and is, a sad period of the party history.

All I see on this thread is, from certain quarters, deliberate obfuscation and vacuity. An empty vessel, they say, makes the most noise. I don't really see this thread as leading anywhere. I have read the posts, yet am no more aware of the arguments or intent of certain posts. It is like drowning in quicksand, the only way appears to be "down".Therefore, I will retire and leave the discourse to those who have the stamina to indulge in this pointlessness. I've got better things to do, I'm trying to help bring about a "sane" world. I think I'll stick to that!!!

I've been through this before. From 1981, to be exact. That the discussion over the Party name and it's usage, led to certain branches being expelled, is a matter of historical tecord. That in all this time, we have been unable to come to a modern discription of our intent, vis a vis our monicker, is regrettable. Nevertheless, in the 21st century, I personally feel that using Grand Brittania is both outdated and moreover counterproductive. We are a World Socialist movement. When established in 1904, the "world" was a smaller place, no longer. The epithet Great Britain, is both outmoded, injurious to our established aims and plainly wrong! From 1981, I had the sense from the Party, that we needed to ditch the illusion of "nationhood" altogether, from the Party discription. It would appear now, that some would have us wear it as if, some badge of honour?  I sincerely wish, that in the 80's we had decided to drop the Statist reference to ourselves. It did not happen, shame about that eh?YFSSteve Colborn.

Why is it, when anyone ever states things like;"Let's face it, if most people will still mainly concern themselves with getting shitfaced, shagging and eating burgers, and completely ignore politics, economics and the philosophy of science,"They are invariably talking about others, not themselves?"
