Hi all, For all those who have not done so already, could you please join the alternative "North East Regional Branch" site. As opposed to this site, it will have the ability for non members to participate in the meeting, much as one would do in a "normal" face to face public meeting.Furthermore, it is intended to use the site as a forum for North East members and sympathisers to discuss topics of interest and concern, again, much as one would do at a "normal" meeting. Participation is a necessary adjunct to a functioning "Socialist Society". The sooner we start availing ourselves of this facility, the quicker we will get used to it and by it's "open use" show others our intent.https://uk.groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NERBranchSPGB-WSM/conversations/messages/1This is the address of the new site. Please peruse it and hopefully decide to join. Members, of course, as well as "non-members" accepted. Thanks in advance and lets make this a vibrant site for discussion. In my capacity as Branch Organiser, it is my intention, if things go well, to call the next meeting from Fri 19th Sept 12 noon, until Sun 21st Sept 12 noon. It is a 24 hour abridgement to our last Branch meeting but using that meeting as a template, it is long enough. If any member has any items they would like included in the agenda, please do no hesitate to contact me at; stvclbrn@yahoo.co.uk or through this site for now, or preferably the new site.Comradely best wishes to all and I hope to we a good response. Steve Colborn,Branch Organiser.__._,_.___

The NERB meeting has now started. However, because of problems on Yahoo, (once again) it will be a bit difficult at first, to run the meeting. Hopefully Yahoo will pull their finger out and get any issues they are having, sorted. The "Agends" is as posted above.

Having the same problems with the new group we were having with the old group. Yahoo groups are rubbish. We really need to sort out an area on this forum front for meetings.

An error in these minutes has been pointed out. This meeting  was inquorate  as V.Maratty, though ratified by the EC,  is still not a member of the party and cannot therefore vote at this meeting. My opologies. I have misunderstood party procedure and rules.

After which, we will proceed to discuss the Party Image/Logo. The meeting will take place on the NERB website; https://uk.groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/NERBranchSPGB-WSM/infoHope to see you there.

    Branch Standing Order 23 wrote:
    23. If quorum has not been met by the end of the day, the Secretary may post a further call with an extended deadline. Those members who are present may begin an inquorate meeting whose actions must be ratified once the meeting reaches quorum, or failing this at the next quorate meeting.

So far as I can tell, there is no issue here, an inquorate branch meeting ratified an applicants membership, which has been approved by the EC, said member shall be deemed to have been a member from the point of acceptance by the branch (not of the EC's acceptance).  The inquoracy is a matter for the branch, not for the EC considering a membership application.I recall my union branch functioning inquorately for years, as did Central London Branch, whilst it is good to seek quorum, sometimes we have to acft without it or face organisation paralysis: and in this case admitting a new member was a means by which inquoracy could be overcome, which is the objective.  I suspect the EC will just re-affirm their September decision, and until then the new member should be counted as a member of the branch.
