It’s not that hard, Lizzie, perhaps your not as cunning a linguist as you claim!

I don’t claim to be a cunning linguist (snigger) although being reasonably fluent in four languages makes me quite a clever girlie. I also know the difference between your and you’re, their and there and Carlisle and Carlise.

You’re being asked to vote in the London elections for an Assembly that will watch a Mayor ask a government to ask the people who own the country for the money to run the region

So says the opening paragraph of the SPGB’s GLA Election leaflet!

English may not be my first language but I think I have more than a sufficient understanding of it to conclude that the above convoluted text is enough to confuse even the least dumbed-down member of the populace.

According to the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which tracks the number of households in financial difficulties, 5.8 million people reported that they were struggling to pay a large bill in February 2020.

The data, which gives an insight into the UK’s personal finances, showed that by January 2023 the number of people in financial difficulties almost doubled to 10.9 million.

So will those people stick with capitalism? You bet they will!

Hamas’ incursion into Israel on October 7 transformed the politics of the Middle East. Al Jazeera’s Investigative Unit (I-Unit) has carried out a forensic analysis of the events of that day – examining seven hours of footage from CCTV, dashcams, personal phones and headcams of dead Hamas fighters, and drawing up a comprehensive list of those killed.

In October 7, the I-Unit reveals widespread human rights abuses by Hamas fighters and others who followed them through the fence from Gaza into Israel.

But the investigation also found that many of the worst stories that came out in the days following the attack were false. This was especially true of atrocities that were used repeatedly by politicians in Israel and the West to justify the ferocity of the bombardment of the Gaza Strip, such as the mass killing of babies and allegations of widespread and systematic rape.

In particular the I-Unit reveals that claims by the Israel Defence Force that it found 8 burned babies at a house in Kibbutz Be’eri were entirely untrue. There were no babies in the house and the 12 civilians inside were killed by Israeli forces when they stormed the house. This was one of a number of incidents where the police and army appear to have killed Israeli citizens.

In the UK 12 million people were in absolute poverty at the height of the cost of living crisis – equivalent to 18% of the population, including 3.6 million children.

The latest figures show food insecurity rose dramatically, up from 4.7 million people (7%) in 2021-22 to 7.2 million (11%) in 2022-23. Food bank use is also up, with 3.4% of all UK households saying they had accessed charity food in the past 12 months, a figure that rises to 10% of households in poverty.

Wilhelm Reich’s The Mass Psychology of Fascism and Listen, Little Man! both address the propensity of the mass of the proletariat to idolize and to follow, and to actively hate those who do not join the majority in this.

Wise words from a fellow Austrian who effectively demonstrates the futility of expecting the working class to overthrow capitalism, which is, and will remain, the only game in town.

    Until…..

    Suck it up, comrades 🙁

Now back in good old Blighty (a rather quaint word which, I find, originates from the Urdu word Vilayati). Fascinating!

And to the wonderful news that Octopus, my energy supplier, will be reducing bills for the typical home by around £238 a year, following OFGEM’s announcement of new Energy Price Cap rates for April 2024.

    Yippee!

Another contribution to this debate, from Ed Griffiths who we know:

And not one mention in that lengthy article, as far as I can tell, of the SPGB, who Griffiths knows not only well, but I see gave a talk at your Head Office some nine years ago!

‘Inappropriate behaviour’ appears to be a common feature of the Boeberts: her ex-husband reportedly revealed his ‘assets’ to two women in a bowling alley back in 2004.

No understanding of real historical processes….

Same applies to the overwhelming majority of the world’s workers which is why capitalism remains the only and (predictably) final game in town.

Outside Muslim areas Galloway’s Workers Party have much support.

I presume you intended to say doesn’t have much support.

Don’t be quite so sure, bearing in mind your rather poor track record when it comes to making predictions. 🙂
