Perhaps one of the music-lovers here can dig out the original song as a forgotten classic.

I’m planning to be at my local polling booth in Cumbria early on Thursday. Is it too late to get some leaflets to hand out whilst I film myself on my mini-platform for my YouTube channel?

According to this link, campaign material is not allowed within the perimeters of a polling station. (Scroll down to campaigning on polling day).

Then what’s with the claim that 42% of Americans are Young Earth creationists?

    Yep, here’s the 2014 poll!
Although I doubt much has changed in the past decade,

So, Lizzie, only parties that have sway should be supported, even if the reasons they have sway and are popular are wrong?

Don’t be ridiculous, More – that’s neither what I said nor implied.

I was responding to a comment made by DJP.

So it’s not wishful thinking or fantasy to think that some fringe candidate in a UK election will have a meaningful sway on Israeli military policy? Another interesting take.

Says the apologist for a fringe party that has had no meaningful sway on anything or anybody in 120 years.

But keep up the preaching comrades!

Who will champion Gaza’s bombed and starved children in the UK elections?

Not the SPGB, that’s for sure. It resides in fantasy land.

I might suggest a Curly Wurly (much diminished in size and quality since the 1970s, in my opinion) available at 25p from Azda (but you’ll have to walk there, as you don’t have enough left over for the bus)

Now there’s a thought – I might just do that. Haven’t got an Azda nearby afaik but there is an Asda within easy walking distance.

Hmmm, nothing quite like a nibble on a nice Curly Wurly. 🙂

Despite what Lizzie45 thinks, there is no such thing as a free lunch under capitalism. Workers have to struggle to hold on to their share of the social product and if her dismal view of the potential for working-class militancy is correct, that does not augur well for their future economic prospects under capitalism.

Probably true. Imagining a brave new world is all fine and dandy but workers will understandably remain suspicious of solutions that sound fantastical. Which is why they continue to reject outfits like the SPGB.

I was asking more about how you thought this is connected to your more general claims about the impossibility of achieving socialism and the futility of even trying.

As the OP of this thread observed – The working class nowadays compares itself with its ancestors and shrugs its shoulders and says “It’s not that bad now”

And having a reduction in living costs will confirm that view and thus help maintain the status quo.

    So what!?

I’m still puzzled at what you think the relevance of this is to anything?

More money to spend on other things, obviously!

Jayzus, you people are fucking clueless.

Octopus Energy inform me that they’re cutting prices from July 1: around £122 a year for a typical home.

All grist to the mill! 🙂

Julian Assange expected to be freed in US plea deal

Julian Assange has reached a plea deal with US prosecutors that would end the WikiLeaks founder’s long-running legal saga over leaked documents and ultimately allow him to walk free after years of incarceration and confinement.

According to court filings on Monday, Assange has agreed with the US Department of Justice to plead guilty to one charge of conspiracy to obtain and disseminate classified information linked to US national defence, in connection with what prosecutors have described as one of the biggest compromises of classified material in the country’s history.

He is scheduled to submit his plea on Wednesday morning in federal court in Saipan, which is part of the Northern Mariana Islands, a US commonwealth north of Guam. Sentencing is set to happen immediately after the plea submission. Assange has already served 62 months in a UK jail and prosecutors are not seeking additional imprisonment.

Where have those like him got any of us? Some people never learn

And where has 120 years of abstract propagandising got the SPGB?

On July 5th we’ll know – as if there was any doubt!
