ParticipantI didn’t watch his speech in Parliament, but then gave a short listen. I tweeted this:
Children are starving in Britain. Yet Ress-Moggs government won’t do anything, but it can find £16bn for the military!
His Government totally ignored the U.N. Special Rapporteur, on the UK Government’s Austerity measures, which it said: was cruel and adversely affected vulnerable groups!Ress-Mogg attacks UNICEF for playing politics, that they (UNICEF) should help people elsewhere, but he couldn’t give a damn one bit about them!
His Government’s Foreign office has reduced UK overseas aid budget by £2.9bn and is facing billions (£15bn according to Downing Street) in cuts to many of these countries, which will make matters worse (if that’s possible) for those suffering from food shortages, food insecurity and hunger.Cut to UK’s overseas aid budget ‘not ruled out’ https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-54977729

Participant“A disgrace” Is one response on Twitter, by Angela Rayner a Labour MP. Not sure if she has seen Jacob Ress-Moggs take on this?
A disgrace.
You should be ashamed of yourselves @BorisJohnson @RishiSunak and the rest of you.https://t.co/P3u1fiJliM

ParticipantThe crowds are back. Millwall fans boo players taking the kneel
Millwall fans boo as players take the knee.
Loud booing could be heard when players from both teams took the knee in support of #BlackLivesMatter movement before kick off, with at least one supporter heard shouting "get up!"

ParticipantYemen? A deal to end the war next can be brokered?
Venezuela? This obviously not for selfish reasons, it would benefit the Party. With Venezuela constantly being linked to a “failure of Socialism.”
—Venezuela is seen as a “failure of Socialism” by most Americans who tweet on the Party Twitter page.
Yet the War in Yemen (Syria). UN: Yemen 14m face starvation, the world’s worst humanitarian crisis in 100 years. Are not seen as the “failure of Capitalism”???
james19

ParticipantAnother oft saying. If Capitalism didn’t exist it would have been invented.
rodshaw As the old adage goes:
“You can fool all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.”
Capitalism is on our side. A million people in the UK, 40m in the US have lost their jobs. The ticking time bomb, this is the prospect of millions losing their homes, for failing to keep up mortgage* repayments on their property and others falling behind with rent.
* Many who believe that they own their own home will find out how much they own!

ParticipantHi all, I hope you don’t mind? I messaged the link for the November issue of the Socialist Standard, to Marcus Rashfords Twitter account, as we mention him (on the back page). I suspect a PA or whoever runs his account won’t pass it on?
Good to see activity of late on the Party Twitter account. YFS-

ParticipantMarx: In each epoch every ruling elite has claimed their social system to be the greatest social system in history. Only for it to be consigned to the dustbin of history. Replaced anew with better ways of organising things.
Many of these ‘whole food’ businesses, start off with the ethos, to benefit the health of people and planet, rather than stockholders. As bread has been mentioned. When you buy a loaf of white bread, it has been processed, the bran is removed from wheat. Bread manufacturers then take the bran and sell it as “beneficial for good digestion”….at a premium! Whole food shops by and large sell whole wheat bread, at a premium! Not to mention these health food stores (strangely) sell ‘health supplements’ …..which by and large have no health benefits whatsoever. As they would often claim themselves, ‘nutrition’ is in the whole foods they sell, again which are sold at a premium! It’s not much short of a license to print money! This is the reason Amazon presumably paid a lot of money to acquire the business.
Whole Foods (it appears) then sells out to Amazon., who puts its stockholders first against Whole Foods very ethos! Now, before the health of its employees it seems, it has scraped the extra $2 an hour for employees who have continued to work though the pandemic!
It’s all a complete and utter sham…the only thing that’s ‘organic’ about Whole Foods, making large profits for its parent….. Amazon!

ParticipantAJ. Done. Thank you. I posted the link on Twitter, Hannah replied to me, with a thank you. I wonder if Hispano Chuck should see this? It would mean someone other than me tweeting it, for him to respond too? Let’s see?
james19
ParticipantAJ. I didn’t know about the Scotland version of SOYMB. I’ve just added it to my reading list…many thanks. YFS

ParticipantAJ. My tweets are protected. So I don’t get into lengthy arguments, that end up with me saying something Twitter deem abusive, who then suspend my account. Hispano Chuck, can’t see my tweets.
On the plus side, I’m so pleased with the unexpected but sympathetic, and engaging reply by Hannah Kristin, to the Party tweet.
My reply, would be to mention http://www.wspus.org here, maybe? For the benefit of our US followers, US sympathisers , US readers and Hannah. YFS-

ParticipantI posted your SOYMB post: Protecting Pensions? Or Protecting the Rich
In reply to this tweet
…the working majority.
Folks with IRAs, 401Ks, pension plans, etc.
So basically, more than half of everyone working in, or retired from, all public and private sectors benefit from the stock market.

Good read thank you. I am in the US but our situation is similar. Our wealth inequality is staggering.
