KeymasterStill, tougher if you are Irish. There the unemployed are not being told to get on their bikes to get jobs but take airplanes and boats and find work abroad. An unemployed electrician, was encouraged to move to Coventry, while another jobseeker was offered work as a bus driver in Malta. …6,000 unemployed people suggesting they should take jobs in other European countries in an effort to reduce unemployment benefits, the Financial Times has reported. One in four Irish under 25 are still unemployed. How long before the UK jobless are told to become emigrants?http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/unemployed-told-to-leave-ireland-in-desperate-move-to-slash-welfare-costs-9002720.html

KeymasterBoth parties agree to make life tougher for migrants Labour's shadow welfare minister Chris Bryant said: "For generations, people have come to this country and worked hard to contribute to Britain, but the principle of contribution is an important one, and the controls on immigration must be fair to those who live here."That is why Labour called for stronger restrictions on benefits for new arrivals from the EU, including proposals eight months ago to strengthen the habitual residence test to make it clear that people should not be able to claim benefits when they first arrive."http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-25360167

KeymasterNot to mention one of the later converts to RC, Tony Blair. But he never let the previous Pope's (and before his own conversion) anti Iraq war views interfere with his personal message from God to go to war. Why let the middle-man thwart the invasion!! http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/religion/5373525/Tony-Blair-believed-God-wanted-him-to-go-to-war-to-fight-evil-claims-his-mentor.htmlDidn't the Pope recently lay off some of his Vatican Bank executives for fraud and money laundering?http://www.ft.com/intl/cms/s/2/3029390a-5c68-11e3-931e-00144feabdc0.html

KeymasterFrankie makes another critique of capitalism. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/12/12/pope-economy-idUSL6N0JR2CE20131212 "The succession of economic crises should lead to a timely rethinking of our models of economic development and to a change in lifestyles," he said."The grave financial and economic crises of the present time … have pushed man to seek satisfaction, happiness and security in consumption and earnings out of all proportion to the principles of a sound economy," he said, calling on governments to implement "effective policies" to guarantee people's fundamental rights, including access to capital, services, educational resources, healthcare and technology…" Send him a LU membership form.

KeymasterTime to resurrect this thread. Positive Money are claiming the Green Party have now de facto accepted their analsis as their party policy.http://www.positivemoney.org/2013/11/monetary-policy-of-green-party/Private banks create money – The Greens now advocate 100% reserve banking "To finance their lending, investment or proprietary trading activities, banks will have to borrow or raise the necessary national currency from savers and investors"As if they don't do that now!!…what do they mean by "necessary national currency" …no more international financing on the world market? I keep saying it – we should have a dedicated pamphlet to banking.

Keymasteri have never read any of his books so i cannot comment upon those but i have read a number of his articles. The danger of "phrasing " things to make the idea of socialism more acceptable is that he may end up re-defining socialism into something it is not and mix it up with a desired but unachievable form of capitalism – profit seeking without exploitation.

KeymasterI'm surprised a search did not bring up any hits for you because he has written a lot for such alternative blogs as Truth-out .Our own Socialist Courier addresses his approach here http://socialist-courier.blogspot.com/2013/06/the-new-economics-dusty-old-ideas.html

KeymasterI still want a flag pole sticking out with a red flag, or a hanging sign from the existing bracket.(even if it does mean seeking council approval) But on the two examples shown i favour the lay-out and the colour scheme of the second but MINUS the window WSM logo. A smaller version of that can go in the window pane above the door, under the B

KeymasterWe are very critical of Gar Alperovitz. He argues for co-ops such as Mondragon as models of worker-owned capitalism. Richard Wolf is another who takes this position. There are plenty of info on why co-ops are a dead-end on the discussion list, our website and the blogs for you to read so i won't repeat the arguments here except to say why resurrect old ideas that have a proven track record of failure. KeymasterJust confirmation by the new "socialist" that she was elected on her platform of reforms and not for her case for socialism.http://inthesetimes.org/article/15960/can_socialists_win_elections_in_the_u.s/ “People said, ‘Okay, maybe I’m not a socialist, but I support these demands, and I like that this person seems like a serious fighter for these demands,’ ” Sawant says "…Socialists can win, as long as they patiently build organizational capabilities, raise adequate funds and win over key segments of the Democratic coalition…"
