Several people wanted to know our views on the EU referendum (we may do a leaflet for next time).

The Election Committee has already prepared an EC Statement and a leaflet to go before the 2 April EC Meeting.

    Thanks.

Stall in Canterbury yesterday – 16 AprilAfter last month’s success, yesterday's stall was a disappointment.  This was down to the weather (mostly cold and wet) and the presence of several other groups with stalls, EU campaigners and the Labour Party.Only sold two standards and one pamphlet but the four members present handed out about 500 leaflets, (mainly Karl), including 400 on the EU referendum. A school-teacher also took some leaflets for a class discussion on the EU.Head Office has reported a telephone request for information as a result of the stall, asking “to be told all about socialism.”

Stall in Canterbury today – 14 May The four comrades present had more company today with labour and EU stalls, who also had their own pop-up banners this time. There was also an anti-fash stall – we got the space next to them well away from Labour, but it was very crowded with leafleters. We sold a couple of Standards and a book, but distributed maybe three hundred of our EU leaflets and others. We had an A2 blow-up of the EU leaflet text on the display stand and several people stopped to read it.Next stall in Canterbury is on 11 June and the next one in Folkestone will be on 28 May

Stall in Canterbury today – 11 June Stall went better today than the last two at Canterbury. There was far less competition from other groups – just the EU ‘outers’ today.Sold three pamphlets, one SOYMB, three Standards and gave out some back issues. Lots of the EU leaflets handed out.Had a lot of useful discussions; most people who approached us asked about our EU position and quite a few people stopped to read the EU text on the display. Most of the people we spoke to were very receptive of our ideas. One person came up to ask the price of a Standard subscription, and two (one young, one middle aged) wanted to know what we were or what socialism was, and took leaflets. One visitor bought 3 items (we got her contact details), an anarchist from Dover, who said she (and her friend with her) had hoped to get to our Folkestone meeting, but couldn’t make it. She mentioned that she and her associates look out for what the SPGB says on issues and usually are in agreement. She also mentioned the Ian Bone/SPGB debate. She bought the SOYMB – having earlier seen a copy on sale second-hand (at Burgate Books) for lot more than we were charging.Weather was good, fairly warm and only a light breeze so we left the display free-standing. We started to pack up just after 5pm, and then the sky went dark and it started to rain……

Working on your tan and promoting socialism, all you guys needed was a cold beer or two and it would have been near perfect.

I wasn't present but I can say with some certainty that the cold beer or two…  or more…  would have come later…

Folkestone Stall this Saturday (30 July)K&S scheduled a literature stall on Folkestone this Saturday, to be run by two members from 12 noon.Unfortunately, one of those members has had to pull out and as we have no other members available it looks like we must cancel. We need two people minimum to do the set up etc. and to be around for health and safety purposes. However, if there is any chance anyonewould be willing/able to spare two hours or so to help out we could still go ahead with it.Please PM me

Canterbury was very quiet today, which, judging by the traffic bulletins, was due to most of the local population being on Margate beach (apart from a handful of Lib Dems who also had a stall today). We still managed to sell three Standards, two books and two pamphlets. Two hundred topical leaflets were distributed and several back issues of the Standard given away, mostly the July “US” issue, which were of particular interest to several US tourists and a young man we caught wearing a Eugene Debs election badge (even though he knew little about him).
