Will the Israeli-Hamas conflict spark a wider regional war, pulling in the U.S.?
Much will depend on whether Iran’s well-armed Lebanese proxy, Hezbollah, launches a full-scale assault on Israel from the north.We do need some perspective, what is happening is Gaza now is what happened in Aleppo, Mosul, Fallujah (each city, admittedly, less densely populated than Gaza city, but still with horrific civilian death tolls. 23,000 civilians died in the battle of Aleppo.
For several reasons, Palestine draws more attention than these horrors, but is in principle no different, a part and parcel of the ongoing capitalist world war. The interest of various ruling groups calls on us to pay attention to what is happening in Gaza, but equally horrifying wars are being fought in Tigray, Yemen, Ukraine (and other places, I’m sure, if I put the time into finding them all).
But the horrors of the siege of Gaza pale compared to the war that is waged through poverty, 9 million die every year from hunger (and that isn’t an overnight death, it’s a long slow process of being exposed to hunger). That’s about 25,000 every day.
Does anyone know anything about this – what appears to be proposed legislation in France criminalizing anti-zionist (that is, opposition to Israeli nationalism) sentiments under the deceitful pretence that is somehow anti-semitic (that is, a form of racism)?
If it is what it appears to be that is quite alarming. It could set a precedent…

Against the worrying tide of content that has flooded this thread in recent times, which is indistinguishable from the output of the Trot and other natlib-endorsing ‘left’ (some of it, sadly, emanating from Party members) Those who retain and do not deviate from a class focus are to be applauded. YMS’s post on ‘perspective’ is a clear and concise example of this distinct latter attitude . The only Enemy is the class Enemy.

The rabbi of the Israeli army’s Nahal Brigade training base, Amichai Friedman, told soldiers that the Israeli public understands that “This is our country. All of it. Including Gaza, including Lebanon, the entire Promised Land.”
The rabbi explains the essence of Zionism very clearly and without equivocation: Gaza and Lebanon are lands to be ethnically cleansed so that the ‘chosen’ people can claim them as their own. Zionism is Fascism.

I don’t think the Jewish tribal god has enough battalions to enforce that. But it puts “from the river to the sea” in the shade.
Will the government now ban as racist, insulting and provocative, those who proclaim “from the sea to the river . . . Euphrates” ?

That passage from Antonio Domene about “Knowing the Zionists’ greed for power and money” seems rather anti-semitic. Why single out the Jewish nationalists (Zionists) for this when it applies to all capitalist states? It sounds as if he means “knowing the Jews’ greed for power and money”. Which is definitely anti-semitic.
