This is an interesting tweet from  the next UK Prime Minister drawing workers attention  away from capitalist sectional  interests to the class struggle

The real divide in our country is not between those who voted to remain in the EU referendum and those who voted to leave. It is between the many, who do the work, create the wealth and pay taxes – and the few, who set the rules, reap the rewards….

I am now using a feature Twitter has. You can ‘protected your tweets.” Only people who follow you can view your tweets. So this means I no longer end up into the early hours, and days even weeks “debating” with hateful trolls.

    Hi James

I block Trolls after a warning, they are there to waste your time. I get flooded with rubbish on Stalin and Venezuela. I tell them that their reference to countries with wages and profits as ‘socialism’ reveals their monumental ignorance on this subject.  They can’t even identify capitalism never mind socialism.

I thought I would move this post here as it is more ‘ontopic’ and central to the party’s past discussions on the use of twitter

just out of interest, shouldn’t this post include the caveat that you do not support the Pope nor the Catholic church.  (personally I don’t think it should.

I tweeted your post and it could appear that I support the statement from the Pope

I ask in order to perhaps help members understand ‘Twitter’ better.

Is it possible for the internet committee to get all our accounts Twitter verified as the SPGB one isiand to perhaps challenge the use of World Socialist Party on that other account?

    My emphasis

    Which one(s)?

These ten accounts  twitter. Some have used #socialistsunday to shout out

There are also individual members with pseudonyms.

Then there are others such as https://twitter.com/WSWS_Updates

Would it be helpful if users of the forum could contribute suggestions to improve the layout and functioning of the forum?

The previous thread makes quite a few suggestions here.

    New SPGB website??

As I have said the forum skin can be replaced with one with all the basic functions. or there is nothing stopping the party setting up another forum almost free.

It would be an abdication of responsibility to ignore the pretence that capitalism can be reformed without some comment.

No one has said that. So no one has abdicated responsibility

Where does it say that we are against the workers?

Nowhere, and no one has said that.

These two comments are  straw men and not helpful replies. I will therefore leave it at that as I have no intention of chasing my own tail. Again.  Good luck, though  😉

Well again that is my point Matt. On the attack.

Better to retweet their attacks on inequality and opposition to war?  Personally I do because I oppose them too,(inequality and war) but I also point out that the wages system is the real cause of war and poverty. I could attack their representative – the only person speaking out in the media – but that would be counter productive as it would be seen as an attack on them and their friends and family – many dying on the streets or committing suicide because of poverty.

These are genuine people seeking publicity and solutions. The worst thing the SPGB could do is alienate them. This is just my feelings on the matter.

We have nothing to lose but our chains  😉

Opposing all other political parties is not the problem, no,  but the present interpretation (and not all members interpret it this way) gives the impression that we oppose all those workers speaking out against capitalism.

We appear hostile to all workers taking an interest in their social surroundings.

We all know that the concept of ‘Socialism’ is again becoming popular and acceptable. For example, there is a #socialistsunday hashtag on twitter, mostly Labour party members but not all. This would be a good place for the SPGB to become known amongst people who believe that they are socialists and are seeking solutions. Some are very close to the SPGB position

Can you see the obvious problem?  Hostility to all these workers? Refuse to follow or retweet even though we agree with most of what they are saying?  The SPGB is  immediately alienated

This is why the party is unattractive.

This quote from Albert Einstein is often used against reformism but it applies also to the SPGB

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”

I think there have been different reasons over the years for the failure of the SPGB to attract members but I think the main reason has to do with the so called ‘Hostility Clause’ or rather the interpretation of said clause. I think it is pretty obvious but that is perhaps something to be discussed elsewhere.

Alan I agree with some of what you say .

I think the ‘proboard’ or discussion forum is rapidly being replaced with social media such as ‘twitter’ ‘facebook etc but my point is that the forum is not fit for purpose.  If I brought a washer or laptop from Comet and they didn’t work as they were supposed to I for one would not be satisfied with ‘We did our best’  . I’v always returned faulty items to the vender

However, just ignore me I was merely offering an opinion.  If the party is satisfied then so am I 😉

This is not the fault of members. It is the fault of the company supplying the digital goods

I am no legal eagle but If one buys something that is not fit for purpose then a total refund can be demanded.

I have found these basic functions are lacking I am sure there are more

    No PM Function

    No quote function

    No ‘Report’ button

    No Private messaging

    No ‘Preview message’ function

No User List and who is online

    No search facility

    No Poll creation

No ‘share’ function’ for social media

    No Message rating

    Can’t change Avatar

But all these are minor problems alongside the forum’s lack of user friendliness, and the fact that basic function that have been included are not easily identified and accessible

    As shown in this example

Not one to keep my opinions to myself –

I have noticed on the party’s yahoo list that some members are not satisfied with this £10,000 forum. I am no longer a member but visit the forum now and then  and feel compelled to repeat my initial feelings on this subject.

The forum is not fit for purpose and therefore absolute robbery and the party must have some legal recourse. It did not – does not have – have even the basic facilities required.

It would be even worse if it wasn’t for the hard working party members patching it up

IMposs “Sorry, but I hope this is a “work in progress” because as it currently stands the website’s an embarrassment. It’s arguably one of the worst websites I’ve seen in years. YEARS.”

Absolutely horrendous. Unless this is some form of ‘draft’ then the Party has been robbed.

I suggest members look at other sites for examples; there are loads of good user friendly designs to choose from.

    A random one.
