ParticipantHow is this for off-topic! Bobby Gleg wanted a Viking funeral. Placed in a boat, rowed out to sea, then archers setting alight to it. Never happened! What a fucking travesty for someone who gave so much of himself, to his fellow man. To me and so many others. Steve.

ParticipantROFL , SP. Absofuckinglutely. Rich tossers, with rich well off lives to return to, after a week, living OUR lives, pontificating on how easy it would be to live, OUR lives? Fucking pricks.Role on class conscious understanding of, not OUR, position in society but more importantly, THEIRS! Steve.

ParticipantI remember a guy in the 80's, Piers (the original, or one of them, twats) Merchant and the debate we had with him in Newcastle I think, with Clifford Slapper. Clifford slapped this cretin good and proper, made him look the fool he was.I also have people I care for living on this pittance, that would not even keep a Capitalists horse for a day never mind seven. Not only that forced to grovel for this insulting amount, to fellow workers, employed by the jobcentre.I remember a discussion I had with Pat Maratty in the 80's, when there was talk of giving unemployed workers vouchers instead of cash, to keep them. We came to the conclusion, as must have done the then Tory Gov, that they would never, nor could ever, do this, REASON! they would have to justify the pityful amounts given for each individual thing recquired to live. Rather than let unemployed workers, silently and unreportedly do without one thing, to buy another, and get into debt with loansharks to make ends meet.

ParticipantMy responses have been what they are and in no way contradictory. There is indeed, a quite logical explanation, to being married, yet against marriage! It is just that is personal to my "wife" and myself. It is unnecessary to, indeed I am not going to, elucidate further.Suffice to say, those that know us personally, understand. Steve.

ParticipantTo comrades Surman and OGW, ditto and ditto! Steve.

ParticipantI am a married man, married within a Capitalist society which tells me, this is the right way to "go". I did not need to go through a marriage ceremony, to avow my commitment and want, to be with my wife! or more properly put, the female I felt, most emotionally close to. But that is accepted practice, nothing more, nothing less. Accepted religious and Capitalist practice! In a sane society, one would not even have these, "rites", or ceremonies. What fucking business, personal or, "socially acceptable", has it to do with anyone else, apart from the two people involved? In Capitalism, or any other propertied society, it is, and this is a given, a means and instrument to, social control! Rather than two people "just" wanting to be together, it is economic. As a "bloke", I can fully empathise with comrade Surman, moreover, realise it stretches further than the "marriage ethic". Steve.

ParticipantThanks for that Gnome, appreciate the reply. I, and others realise, that it would not be feasible for the membership to vote on every single issue but surely, spending that much of the resources of the Party on a single campaign and given that is not until "next year", would give the SPGB time to consult the membership on such a significant outlay and to have a discussion on the same!I realise I am no longer a member but is this not a pertinent question and solution? Steve.

ParticipantI apologise if this post is off topic but I have 16 letters books filled with letters, public releases etc, that have been published since 1981, in the name of the Party. I would ask, humbly, if anything happens to me, in the future, these are collated and published, as a record of Socialist activity in the North East.Thank you in advance,Steve, a Socialist and worker.

ParticipantAlan,In the North East, no one can say that the Party has not contested elections. We have stood in the 1997 general election in Easington and got 555 votes. The 1999 Euro election. Myself and John Bissett, have stood in nearly 20+, all told local elections, which was based primarily, on the amount of propoganda generated over 20/30 years, well over 1000 letters published, as well as press releases generated. Many meetings and debates completed. So the groundwork was done and the name of the SPGB and it's aims publicised. It was for this reason we thought that, contesting elections was a justifiable aim. We , in the North East proved, that the SPGB were serious in stating that Socialism could only be achieved through elections and backing that up with contesting elections.Although not a current member of The Socialist Party, the reason I intend to contest the forthcoming local elections is so that, a Socialist presence in elections in the NE can continue, unbroken! Steve.

ParticipantAge has brought reflection. Reflection has brought insight. Insight has brought a broader recognition. A broader recognition has brought acceptance. Acceptance that not all issues and incidences are black and white but must be judged on their individual merits, with critical analysis a must. Steve.

ParticipantThank you everyone. I'll do my best to put the case. Thanks for the offer Vin, much appreciated. Steve.

ParticipantAlthough not a member of the party now, I have, in the last 20 years or so, stood in every local election, as a Socialist Party candidate. Mine and others letters, literally in their hundreds, have put the case for Socialism in the area I live in. No one and I mean, "no one", can say the letters from Bobby Gleghorn, Pat Maratty, Vin Maratty, Eileen Maratty, Stephen Davison, Kevin Lennon, John Bissett, Linda Maratty, Fred DobInson, me and a multitude of other members in this region, have not had a lasting impression on the people of the North East!I am not a member now but I intend to contest the Deneside seat at the County Council and parish council elections. I will not be putting out a Manifesto, no cash, no physical ability to deliver a Manifesto but I will be talking to voters, putting the case for Socialism, the case of the SPGB, in everything but name, in every place and to everyone I can.I will, as I ever have done, tell the voters, that unless they understand and agree with the aim of ushering in a Socialist society, with everything that entails then, no matter how it may impact on a vote for me, then do not vote for me. It will be a wasted vote.I may not now, be a member of the SPGB but I am still a Socialist. As long as I live, I will put the case for the same. Steve.

ParticipantAll property should be held in common, ie common ownership, is really what the "true Socialist movement" is all about. In Latin, it's English translation, or whatever, the Socialist movement should use it! Regardless of the demurement of individuals, it's "good".# Steve.
