ParticipantThe SPGB have regularly fielded candidates in the Deneside ward, Seaham, over the last 15 years and have polled well over 100 votes each time.Purely down to the effort local members put in over the years in Seaham. Public meetings, over 1000 letters in the local Rag, on a wide variety of topics, a poster campaign, in which members in the Seaham Br, put up over 400 posters. Continually talking to local people about Socialism, not to mention the thousands of leaflets delivered to homes in this area.Building up a presence, which still persists today. Steve Colborn.

ParticipantRead the complete post from Northall and it does not say exactly as implied by the above. One has an"ex member", in the loosest association of the term, having a "dig". Whoopty do for him but still inconsequential waffle. Moreover, if the total letter had been reproduced, it would have shown just how irrelevant his views were and how out of context, the above post is.Stebe Colborn.

ParticipantThe Euro, in out hokey cokey debate, has nothing to do with workers. As evinced by the posts above. Will the majority be wage slaves in the EU? yes. Will this be the same outside of the EU? yes. Let those who own and rule the world sort this crap out. At the mo, I've enough on my plate, as do most workers, feeding ourselves and keeping the lights and heating on!One would'nt think it was 2013, in the 21st century. For workers, nothing changes, everything stays the same. Stevie C.

ParticipantI'll second that Alan. Best to all! Steve Colborn

ParticipantAre there any local papers in this area, that members and sympathisers could flood with letters? It would help get our message across. It would also help, for future elections, if a constant stream of letters were to flow to any local paper that may exist! Steve Colborn.

ParticipantI think the least we can do for the old chap, is send him a bunch of Standards, so that he has some info to broaden his attacks on Capitalism. You never know, he may even send a donation as a thank you! Or, heaven forfend, attend a meeting. Steve Colborn.

ParticipantWho was online, when this post was "flagged"? I know, do you who read this? Someone feeling guilty about something? Steve Colborn

ParticipantIt was a generic observation. We know that Bush Junior rigged his last election, do we not? Brand may be a self-seeking publicist but how many of these have you seen or heard, actually getting ordinary folk, to even think about, never mind consider revolution? As to that, how many "ordinary folk" have you, specifically, gotten to think about revolution? not as many as Brand did I'll wager. Rather than petty remarks, try and seize the moment comrade. Try to use this oppurtunity for the "good" of the movement!By the way, perhaps I'd care to tell who, who is what, or did what? what do you mean? Steve Colborn

ParticipantJealousy rears it's ugly head! Look marra, Brand has got "ordinary folk" talking about "revolution". Whether or not they are serious about it or not, the fact is, it is in the public domain and consciousness. Instead of your cheap sniping, you and we, should be thinking of ways to turn this to the advantage of our "whole class".You reckon he is a self-seeking publicist, he may well be, but given where he has come from, the least you can do, is give theguy a fair hearing and chance. At least he is'nt suggesting fixing ballots to get the outcome we, as class conscious Socialists want! That would be unforgiveable, would it not? Steve Colborn.

ParticipantAdam is correct, it is the people Brand has got talking about revolution that we are interested in. One caveat however, if Brand himself turns out to be a "real" revolutionary Socialist, he would be as welcome in the Party as any member of the working class, or rich celebrity, or as I see it, "Human Being" who cares about his fellow man.Brand has opened the door, it is incumbent upon Socialists to push it "wide open".Steve Colborn.

ParticipantThe title of this thread is, "Why would membership of the SPGB be refused". It is an important question and one that would appear to have evolved. It would appear that there are moves afoot to the effect that other matters can be taken into consideration, besides acceptance of the O and DofP and agreement with the same and applicants not being members of, nor advocating the positions of, other political partys. If this is, indeed the case, it leaves open the door to a very slippery slope indeed. Personalisation of applications. Viewing applications not on the facts but on so-called, "past history". Something even Capitalist jurisprudence does not allow. It would even appear that "myth" is taken into account! An ex member reapplying for membership, whose initial form F was defered to allow time for reconsideration of the Form F and which was only accepted at the next EC meeting, is today deemed a wrecker, a spoiler, a troublemaker, even though the facts do not bear this out.It appears that the question posited at the start of this thread is beginning to be answered and the answer is quite scary. ParticipantWell, there is always one cracker in the barrel, in this instance it appears to be Andrew Northall. On clicking onto Alans link, I could not believe I was reading the views of someone who had been a member of the SPGB. It makes me wonder how he got into the party in the first place? Steve Colborn
