KeymasterIt's not the title of the pamphlet but of the review/write-up of it.

At the May Day rally in Clerkenwell the "Revolutionary Communist Group" (who publish Fight Racism, Fight Imperialism and think that workers in Britain share in the exploitation of workers in the Third World) had a banner with portraits of Sylvia Pankhurst and John Maclean. I'm not sure why they like her but in any event it's publicity for her name.

KeymasterI don't think unfortunately we can do that as, following being scammed by people in Uganda and Ukraine there's a Conference Resolution saying we can't send actual money to socialists abroad. Here's what was voted in 2006:
Quote:This Conference rules that the Party shall cease sending money grants to overseas groups or individuals, but shall continue to give every assistance to socialist activities abroad by way of printing and dispatching campaign material from Head Office.I am sure the EC can find other ways of helping the SPC financially, e.g. not charging them for the Standard and pamphlets, inviting individuals to direct send money to Canada.

KeymasterIncluding a copy of Martov's State and the Socialist Revolution. Three more are being despatched from Head Office to Cardiff. We always sell at least one of these at this sort of meeting (as at Clerkenwell on this 1 May). There seems to be some interest amongst Leninists and ex-Leninists in Marx without Lenin.

Keymasterjondwhite wrote:Why are Turks any more nationalist than Brits?Their nationalism is more intense because the Turkish State has not been in existence as long so that its partisans have had to wage a more recent and more determined struggle to get support against conservative ideas such as nostalgia for the Ottoman Empire, Islam, etc. There was an article which touched on this in the March Socialist Standard:http://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/socialist-standard/2010s/2018/no-1363-march-2018/turkey-whats-goingIn Britain the stuff put out by the so-called "Communist Party of Britain Marxist-Leninist" on Brexit is virtually indistinguisable from that put out by UKIP. See for example the front cover and content of their pamphlet Take Control which can be downloaded from their site (it's on the right):https://www.cpbml.org.uk/

KeymasterNo it wouldn't work. Speaking as a car driver, it's a crackpot idea. Cyclists are already enough of a problem. In the Lambeth Central by-election in 1978 Commander Boaks was amongst our opponents. He finished bottom well below us:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lambeth_Central_by-election,_1978

KeymasterNo doubt because they are nationalists as all "Marxists-Leninists" deliberately are. Incidentally, over the years we have had a few members (I can think of 4) from "Turks based in London".

KeymasterThe text of the interview is the bottom half (the top half is an interview with a French trade unionist). It seems to be about Kevin's experiences as a trade unionist since the days of Thatcher but the Party and the fact that he/we are contesting a local election gets a mention.Anyone out there read Danish?

KeymasterThree members ran a small stall and handed out leaflets (surplus London election ones). Sunny day but the turnout for the march was pathetic. Without the Turkish, Kurdish and Tamil "Marxist-Leninists", some brandishing pictures of Stalin, there'd have been hardly anybody on it. Hardly any trade unionists as such. In fact it was a "Marxist-Leninist" rather than a Trotskyist convention. Still, we met some old contacts and had some interesting conversations. There's an official TUC march and rally on Saturday 12 May at which there will be many, many more.

KeymasterI would think that future historians of capitalism's wars will come to the conclusion that the establishment of Israel and its sustaining as an outpost of the Western capitalist powers to further their interests in the Middle East was a monumental mistake even by capitalism's standards.

KeymasterI would say that it's due to bad reporting and/or sub-editing by the Grauniad, one of the reasons why it's going down the pan.On the substantive issue, it's going to be interesting — a dodgy dossier case where the bombing powers are on different sides. This could result in a more objective discussion of the issue and dissection of the allegations in the mainstream media than when the three bombing states are on the same side..But what a hypocrite Nutty Yahoo is. As if israel had not itself secretly, and successfully, developed mass destruction nuclear weapons and still won't admit that it has done this.
ALB
KeymasterYes, that's annoying but it should be possible to restore in the online version of the article what to what both the author and the editorial committee intended. We will publish a correction in the June issue.

KeymasterWhen Russia brought witnesses from Douma to testify at a press conference at the headquarter of the Organisation for the Progibition of Chemical Weapons in the Hague last week, an ITV journalist (who they promise to name and shame)
Quote:asked the witnesses how much they were paid for taking part in the press conference,It is not a question asked of the witnesses brought forward by the rebel side, but the obvious reply is of course "how much were you paid to ask this question?" The answer is provided by the famous poem by Humbert Wolfe "The British Journalist":
Quote:You cannot hope to bribe or twist, thank God! the British journalist. But, seeing what the man will do unbribed, there's no occasion to.Incidentally, I notice that his wikipedia entry also says:
Quote:Wolfe said, in an interview with Twentieth Century Authors, that he was "of no political creed, except that his general view is that money and its possessors should be abolished" -
