KeymasterTruss has promised a further crackdown on trade unions, widening restrictions to a significant new number of industries. Truss said she would legislate for minimum service levels on critical national infrastructure in the first 30 days of government under her leadership. The pledge would go further than the Tories’ 2019 policy, which promised a minimum service should operate during transport strikes.
The new law proposed by Truss would potentially restrict teachers, postal workers and the energy sector. Tailored minimum thresholds, including staffing levels, would be determined with each industry.
Mick Lynch, general secretary of the RMT said unions would organise mass resistance if the plans went ahead, calling it “the biggest attack on trade union and civil rights since labour unions were legalised in 1871.”
“Truss is proposing to make effective trade unionism illegal in Britain and to rob working people of a key democratic right,” he said. “If these proposals become law, there will be the biggest resistance mounted by the entire trade union movement, rivalling the General Strike of 1926, the Suffragettes and Chartism.”alanjjohnstone

KeymasterRussia turns off the gas
Gazprom said it was cutting daily gas deliveries via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline to 33 million cubic metres starting Wednesday. That would correspond to 20% of the pipeline’s capacity. The current flow of gas into Germany is only at 40%.

KeymasterYou have to wonder if the Guardian reporters own an atlas since they cannot see that on a map the China South Sea corresponds to the Chinese as the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean does for the USA, which has the whole wide Pacific Ocean separating the USA from the China South Sea.

KeymasterThe propaganda of war
US military officials have raised alarms about the possibility that China could invade Taiwan – possibly by 2027.
The Chinese military has become significantly more aggressive and dangerous over the past five years, the United States’ top military officer, Gen Mark Milley, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, said

KeymasterThe EU needs a new strategy on the war in Ukraine as punitive sanctions against Moscow have not worked, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has said.
“A new strategy is needed which should focus peace talks and drafting a good peace proposal…instead of winning the war.”
https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2022/7/23/hungarys-orban-says-eu-sanctions-on-russia-have-failed
He said that the Western strategy on Ukraine has been built on four pillars – that Ukraine can win a war against Russia with NATO weapons, that sanctions would weaken Russia and destabilise its leadership, that sanctions would hurt Russia more than Europe, and that the world would line up in support of Europe.
This strategy has failed.
“We are sitting in a car that has a puncture in all four tyres: it is absolutely clear that the war cannot be won in this way.”
Orban called for Russia and the United States to hold negotiations to bring about an end to the war because Russia wants security guarantees only Washington can give.

KeymasterWez, as another on the forum would say, the blind leading the blind.
Yes, they offer an alternative narrative to the mainstream media.
But it too is a false one of the enemy of our enemy is our friend.

KeymasterThey aren’t anti-Putin is a better way of saying it, as we clearly are.
Can you cite where Aaron Mate or Max Blumenthal unequivocally condemn the Putin-ordered invasion?
I looked at the headlines on the Grayzone website and failed to find any but plenty of articles suggesting the cause was US aggressive actions (something that did contribute which we wouldn’t deny).
Plenty about Zelensky repressive measures but nothing of Putin’s crackdown on anti-war dissent in Russia.
It is deceit by omission.
See Stephen’s Shenfield’s article on the WSPUS website that does try to provide both sides of the story and describes Russia’s equivalent of the Azov Battalion.

Grayzone did, however, give a platform to the Russian UN ambassador.
VIDEO: Russian UN ambassador responds to US ‘war propaganda’ in interview w/Grayzone
I could be generous that in the interests of fair and balanced journalism they sought to be even-handed.
My impression is that Grayzone reporters view the Russian actions as defensive and engaged in a just war. Western imperialism aka USA is the baddie.
This is a mirror of the situation in Syria, the Left divided between the Assadists, the Russian intervention and the US/Turkish intervention and the Kurdish Rojava.
And the same disputes on whether atrocities were false flag black ops and if the White Helmets were genuine humanitarians or a PR exercise. Aaron Mate was vociferous in clearing the Assad regime of any complicity in the chemical weapons use.
But the real reason the American liberal progressives such as The Young Turks don’t like him is that he denied Russiagate, another topic where he found himself on the same side of the Right-wing Republicans.
