I have seen this hypothetical argument put.In a fire, you rush into a Planned Parenthood clinic to rescue those trapped…you find a month-old baby and also a number of recently aborted frozen but still viable fetuses. You can help just one baby to safety or hundreds of embryos, not both….what is your choice?

It seems appropriate to call a pub by its original name…public house…a house open to all…a home away from home, so to speak.

El Salvador has had a total ban on abortion since 1998. Since then dozens of women have been accused of having illegal terminations after experiencing obstetric emergencies, and later have been convicted of homicide.Marroquín became pregnant in 2003. Shortly before reaching full-term, while working as a housekeeper, she experienced pregnancy complications that resulted in a late-term miscarriage. Without any witnesses or direct proof, she was convicted of aggravated homicide and sentenced to 30 years in prison.“It is inconceivable that Maira spent almost 15 years in prison for experiencing a pregnancy complication. Although she has been released, her conviction has not been overturned and she continues to be guilty in the eyes of the law.”“The Center for Reproductive Rights will continue to shed light on the human rights violations caused by El Salvador’s abortion ban,” said Catalina Martínez Coral, the organisation’s regional director for Latin America and the Caribbean. “We stand with our global and local partners and will not rest until abortion law reform is a reality, and women’s reproductive rights are protected and respected.”https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2018/mar/13/el-salvador-woman-jailed-stillbirth-set-free-maira-veronica-figueroa-marroquin

    Quote:
“What the genetics shows is that mixture and displacement have happened again and again and that our pictures of past ‘racial structures’ are almost always wrong,” says David Reich, a Harvard University paleogeneticist whose new book on the subject is called Who We Are and How We Got Here. There are no fixed traits associated with specific geographic locations, Reich says, because as often as isolation has created differences among populations, migration and mixing have blurred or erased them.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) said in its latest report that the amount of cash in circulation actually rose from 7 per cent of global GDP in 2000 to 9 per cent in 2016. “The resilience of cash as a social institution reminds us of the importance of understanding the economic functions of money, beyond just the innovations in technology,” he added.http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/cash-not-dying-cryptocurrency-rise-contactless-payment-credit-cards-bank-for-international-a8252096.html

https://www.theguardian.com/media/2018/mar/12/nme-vogue-death-print-magazines"The outlook for the UK magazine market is not good with the decline in sales. Sales of the top 100 actively purchased print titles in the UK – those that readers buy or subscribe to – fell by 42%  between 2010 and 2017. Since the start of the internet era in 2000, the decline is 55%…[for] magazines to survive they must build a brand beyond the core print publication…With issues such as fake news, we are seeing the pendulum swing back because of two things: trust and context…we are seeing readers leaning back towards trusted brands…"Food for thought… maybe to push circulation, we have Socialist Standard reader events…rather than Party meetings?…Would that resonate better with our potential audience.

Taking a different approach from the same research, the Telegraph's headline is empathetic people are made not bornhttps://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/2018/03/12/empathetic-people-made-not-born-new-research-suggests/ Just 10 per cent of the variation between people’s compassion and understanding is down to genes. It means, the vast majority of a person's ability to recognise and respond appropriately to the needs and feelings of others, seems to be based on social factors, such as upbringing and environment.

I'm no fan of RT as previous posts on this thread would show. But what i was drawing attention to is the hypocrisy of politicians, in particular, Labour. We already had Iran's Press TV driven from European satellite/cable network for its admittedly biased reportsBut as for any claim of the  "balanced" view of the BBC News, you got to laugh. And i have lost all respect for the Guardian's "objective" reporting.

I recall bus-loads of volunteer human shields went to Iraq just before 2003 invasion. I don't think it hindered "Shock and Awe" …and come to think of it, i don't recall any media coverage about their fate, for that matter. But i think this is a better suggestion than all those calls for a new "International Brigade" from the so-called anarchists and leftist to protect Rojava

I just read that there are 70,000 students in Glasgow, 11% of the population, so this approach to them with the above advert is indeed a useful tool.

White supremacist create (or rather claim to have revived) a whole new vocabulary.https://www.alternet.org/right-wing/white-nationalists-are-pushing-blue-eyed-englishDerived from “linguistic purism,” an idea that dates to the 16th and 17th centuries, Anglish is the English language either expunged of words with Latinate or Greek origins, or with those words completely reimagined with deference to Germanic roots.
