Workshop on 20 October

Hi All,

This is a notice about the workshop at 6.30 pm on Saturday 20 October, 2012.

The purpose of the workshop is to "explore strategies to exploit the current dissatisfaction with capitalism", as called by conference, 2012.

As many people wanted to attend the TUC demo in town during the afternoon of the 20th, Campaigns and the EC decided to hold an evening workshop rather than a whole-day one. This will cut down on time available on this occasion, but Campaigns will be organising a further workshop to develop the work we do in this first meeting.

We can, in any case, get a lot done in a few hours. The workshop will be structured and I can guarantee it will keep participating members' little grey cells active. There won't be much down time. If anyone wants to continue working on this urgent issue beyond the scheduled time, I am happy to stay on.

Our starting point will be to gather together ideas in a form we can consider and assess. So this first workshop will consist primarily of a series of brainstorming sessions. Participants will be presented with fifteen questions about what we, as a party, do well to communicate with fellow members of the working class, what we do badly and where we need to go from here.

We'll then have some time to consider the result. When we've finished on the 20th, I'll publish the results on SPINTCOM and send them to branches for further discussion. Then, in the not too distant future, I'll organise another session, possibly on-line, to select and refine what we have achieved. Finally, from the results I'll draw up a plan of action and ask members to commit to it.

Some very useful suggestions have been coming in for how we organise future meetings and for discussion topics. Keep them coming.

There'll be hot and cold food available at H.O. from 5.30 pm for anyone attending. We'll kick off the workshop at 6.30 pm.
