Mate I often talk pish on this forum esp when it comes to my love/hate relationship with the working class. I'm also fascinated to learn about the origins of the Lennon lyric. Perhaps it's just my arrogance on wondering how anyone could ever have arrived at such a lyric without first having read SPGB lit. I find that astonishing .

Ozzy can admit when he's made an error, so can I. Such a shame some have such difficulty.

I've always considered it the mark of a big man (or woman), he who can (without coercion) openly admit he is wrongI think it is time for ALL sides to come together with arms outstreched.

Listen I didn't put that post up for praise or to be set up as an example for members to emulate. I'm not even a party member anymore. It might piss people off as I've written some amount of garbage on here. Also I'm in the bizarre situation where I don't actually know who most of you are never having met you. Similarly most of you will never have met me. We can't even see each other! Yes the net (if we can hold onto it before it is completely eclipsed by the owning class) is an amazing leveller but it also lends people the ability to become assholes behind a screen. Me included. This might go some way to explaining why there's all this endless bickering going on here. Would there have been as much bad feeling in the 70's or 80's when the Internet didn't exist? I don't know.            Trolls, stalkers, haters, revenge porn and all the rest of it didn't exist years ago. It's as if the Internet has given workers a tool to vent and vomit with. To enable them at last to unleash some of the frustration that comes with being utterly powerless.

I agree with you entirely, and in the unlikely event that I am ever actually wrong about something, I'm sure I will be able to admit it (probably)

Vin said: May I deal with the EC's criticism of the video: “The EC recognizes the efforts behind the video but is unwilling that it be adopted as an official party publication. Criticism of the video include its generally unprofessional and clichéd presentation such as that it is ineffective in getting the socialist case across. For example among other things the use of overly “dramatic” music, the appearance of cartoon capitalists, the emphasis on individual rather than a class approach.”  Although the video speaks of the 'individual' , all speakers in the video explain the position of the individual in terms of their class position. So individuals do what they do because of their class position. This is the whole point of the narrative at the start of video,  to explain that the class position of the individual determines what they can and cannot do. You are where you are as an individual Because of your class position. As for the cartoon characters, a contribution from the EC or others earlier and they could have been replaced with real politicians.  Generally unprofessional?Yes, we are ordinary members of the working class on very low income. One has to wonder what the tolpuddle martyrs, Diggers, Eugen Debs and the early trade union strugglers would have thought of such a criticism The more branches and members contribute during the production,  the more we will all be satisfied with the end product.  Comradely

Agreed but someone needs to tell the current EC that.  Despite their best efforts to thwart the circulation of the so-called 'unauthorised' party video, it has, in two weeks, received as many views (1500) as the 2014 General Election video has received in over two years.

Vin said:I am in contact with a few cdes from WSPUS and they inform me that the NAC would  be in favour of me producing a similar video, based on the World Socialist Movement. And still waiting an explanation from our legal advisor on why this video is open to legal action, while its source the official SPGB youtube channel is not? Or perhaps he has no explanation, If not then why not and why make the claim in the first place? Is this video for example open to legal action? If not then why not? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kUCtS7LU0y4

Hello TimRegarding your post #216  regarding “a set of guidelines for the production of party Videos”, I for one think that is a great idea. The EC can agree it, they should check it is compliant with any rules or conference decisions etc.If you have not heard back from the acting Gen. Sec. I can assure you that you are  a member (currently the only member) of the AVC. There is a link to  list of officers and committee members put out now and then on SPINTCOM (Files section). As for funding for advice (or anything else), the EC would have to agree this.  Most Committees (see their terms of reference), should have reported to the EC by now on its plans and financial requirements for 2017, which then go  in the EC report to ADM. But don’t worry about that, the EC can deal with it later on an ad-hock basis. However, committees have the authority to make a one –off payment up to £250 without EC authorisation.Actually if you have time its not too late to submit a report to the EC (for ADM). Basically you could repeat what you said on the forum post, and if you have any more information (like on costs or any progress) you could add that too. If you get it up to Head Office at least a couple of days before the EC on 1st October (mark it Urgent – EC/ADM report) it could get submitted as a late report to ADM.Another reason your idea is welcome is that all committees in the Outreach and Products Dept. should provide a ‘how to’ manual and  job description (obviously to keep a historic memory and help new/prospective committee members), so this would go towards that. It could also go on SPINTCOM files and be available for all members/Branches to access (see for example the Media Comittee folder there). If you are able to get your finished guidelines ready in time for the 5th November EC, it would be best if you can submit it to the Assistant Gen Sec (who does the agenda) by the Sunday before the meeting, to make sure it gets on the EC agenda. If you are in a hurry to get it adopted, you may find it useful to share a draft in advance with an EC member (as well as on the Forum?), in case there are any obvious questions or technical issues they are likely to refer back to you for further information.Hope this helps (from one EC member who does visit The Forum). NB  I am assuming you have login access to SPINTCOM files and have the committee TOR’s etc.

And what "sort of perspective" would that be, may I ask?  Would it be to do with Vin failing to consult with the EC and thenusing the party logo without their permission.  And finally not being bothered to send a recording of his efforts to the EC but deciding to put it out on Youtube to ask for comments? If he had not used the party logo and done his own thing just like the past effort with Paddy and co nobody would have anything to protest about.  Until the party decide to produce professional video's that is the only sensible way to go.

What about a Video on WHAT SOCIALISM ISN'T,-Back to Barter-Sharing Money out-State ownership-Giving our money to poor and hungry people-Peace and Love-Taking your car and 50 in TV  from you to feed the hungryetcI think these are the things that people think when Socialism is mentioned.  Needs to be aimed at a broad audience. Nothing technical or theoritical but simple. Any ideas?
