If only we could get such coverage for free access

    http://www.theguardian.com/books/2015/jul/03/anarchism-could-help-save-the-world

Considering the frequency that we use the term "free access" there should be a dedicated pamphlet to the idea.

Re: Kropotkin, the Times Literary Supplement this week is running a feature on Victorian Darwinism: Huxleyans vs socialists.

In fact, to my mind, praise for Huxley by socialists is uncalled for. And did he (this bourgeois apologist) not refuse to sign a petition that others had signed to release Kropotkin from prison?

All these articles are PR for the brand new Penguin Classics edition of "The Conquest Of Bread"

Couldn't find the reference in the article to "free access". Pity because that's what he did stand for. I notice that it also fails to mention Kropotkin's support for the First World Slaughter. And I thought the IWW was more influenced by anarcho-syndicalism rather than anarcho-communism (which, in the anarchist tradition, have seen themselves as rivals). Enough pedanticism as he was basically a good guy who influenced William Morris and demolished the idea of "labour-time vouchers" (in, in fact, chapter 13 of The Conquest of Bread).Review of a book about his Mutual Aid  and TH Huxley here:http://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/socialist-standard/2010s/2011/no-1279-march-2011/book-reviews-crude-world-mutual-aid-introduction-an

The social, and not biological, basis of oppression and violence, such as we see in modern capitalism, was also pointed out 100 years before Darwin, by J.J. Rousseau in his Discourse on Inequality. But those who scoff at socialism would also scoff at this. Also, Rousseau speculates (in 1756!) on physiological evolutionary changes, but says honestly that he won`t elaborate upon this since he doesn`t know.

Huxley vivisected, and came up with garbage.  Kropotkin observed, and wrote Mutual Aid!   I rest my case.

I'm not in favour of vivisection (far from it, certainly not in its original sense of cutting up animals while they are still alive) but that's not a logical argument. It's about as logical as arguing: Paul Lafargue wrote The Right To Be Lazy and was not against vivisection, therefore vivisection is not bad. This doesn't follow either. And of course there are all sorts of people who didn't vivisect and still came up with garbage …

Great piece, and thanks for the link.  I mentioned the Party, Socialism and get the odd dissenter….. Not sure if the person is genuine or GCHQ?Having posted the link, I lost my dissenter, and a few people were very interested in Kropotkin.I was wondering if I could start a thread on Kropotkin? Any ideas? Feel free; almost anything would be better than having rocks talk to us.

ALB. Hi. It`s still a fact, though, that everyone who does vivisect comes up with garbage!

"Posture Maketh the Man" by S.J. Gould treats of Engels` "The Part Played by Labor in the Transition from Ape to Man."
