The Labour Party’s pronouncement today to the trade unions is a load of nonsense. Sadly the audience applauded. The Labour Party has never been in favour of working class emancipation. Unfortunately this is our world. I’m particularly annoyed about the Labour Party’s failure to promise a decent standard of living to pensioners, tenants, children, students, carers, disabled, unemployed and everyone else.

I am stepping in here to moderate this heated discussion. So please help me here comrades. I think Lizzie made a perfectly valid point. So – in my judgment- anyone who personally insults her on this thread and that includes you robbo – will be deleted. Lizzie is deliberately provocative but we can live with her attitude without going nuclear, I hope. Please stop personal insults. Love and peace.

Yes Almamater – I agree I’m not the boss and I haven’t made a ruling. I’m content that we can move on. Thank you Piers. I forget why some of might argue ushttps://youtu.be/C3_0GqPvr4U?si=L0CWiv20TLEz3Zb_sw

It’s sad and annoying that we’re being fed propaganda telling us that we must support Ukraine in this completely idiotic conflict.

Well Bijou I admire your tenacity. However there is a difference between manly Geordies calling each other “pet” and you calling Lizzie “pet”. Lizzie objected to you addressing her in this way for good reason. I don’t understand why you can’t understand this. If women are addressed by men as – for example – love, pet, hen, babe, sweetie etc in the context of a political online discussion then surely you must see that it is patronising. Even though you normally address other men in this way due to your ethnic background apparently, and bearing in mind that Lizzie is not a manly Geordie as far as we know.

On this occasion I agree with Lizzie (although I don’t consider it acceptable for her to accuse Bijou of being a “sexist shit”). I do think it was sexist of Bijou to address Lizzie as “pet”. He’s tried to defend himself but his Geordie excuses don’t wash. His nearest and dearest may well refer to each other as “pet” but that doesn’t mean it’s acceptable for him to refer to Lizzie, or anyone else who isn’t part of his intimate circle, as “pet”: for example would he address me, the male bus driver, the man fixing his roof, his manly plumber or builder, any party member including for example Cde Buick, the policeman or fireman, the surgeon, the doctor, the headteacher and so on as “pet”. Of course not. He used the term “pet” to patronise and demean Lizzie, perhaps unconsciously, but Bijou once you’re in a hole – honestly, you shouldn’t keep digging.

This factual account isn’t showing the party in a good light. It’s difficult to get across the message that we want a society without money, when we have assets of £2.6 million and only 157 voters. I don’t think it’s our wealth that’s the problem, it’s our lack of popular support when compared with our wealth. Have we become a party that gets rich achieving nothing?

As far as I’m concerned, a nation in which the president conscripts its army – as Ukraine does – should not be supported in its war. I don’t care if Russia started it (politics of the playground). As long as workers are made to fight in/shelter from/flee a war they never voted for, it’s not a war that any of us should ever support or take sides in.

In the UK, we’re fed propaganda that Russia is bad because its army is made up of conscripts, mercenaries and prisoners. Yet Ukraine conscripts all the men, who have no choice. They didn’t get visas to flee the country. They are forced to fight. As are their Russian counterparts.

There has never been a war in which the working class had a choice. Can you imagine a scenario where people said “Oh, let’s engage in warfare“.

No-one ever would ever say that, apart from dictators, politicians, capitalists, arms manufacturers and mercenaries. I don’t believe even regular army personnel want to get into war. For good reason.

So long as our leaders/politicians prolong the Ukrainian conflict, the more I will oppose and despise them. For that reason, I hate the leaders of NATO, Russia and Ukraine in equal measure. They are all and equally the enemy.

    Paula
