Thanks for posting that other Weezer song, Rod. I only knew their song ‘Buddy Holly’, but will definitely check them out, after listening to ‘Island in the Sun’.

    New Year’s Day by U2

This has the memorable lyric: ‘And so we’re told this is the golden age
‘And gold is the reason for the wars we wage
‘Though I want to be with you
‘Be with you night and day
    ‘Nothing changes
    ‘On New Year’s Day’

    – Rod Shaw

You’re right. It was the lyric website that got it wrong. I should have noticed it was “Milo Venus”, because of the gummy Venus de Milo from the Simpsons’ episode: “Homer Badman”. Isn’t it pronounced: Meelo?

It’s good to know other people are listening to these songs, and I’m not just posting them for myself.

Brown-Eyed Handsome Man – Buddy Holly (originally by Chuck Berry)

Best lyric: Marlo Venus was a beautiful lass, she had the world in the palm of her hand. She lost both her arms in a wrestling match to meet a brown-eyed handsome man. She went and won herself a brown-eyed handsome man.

In 1998, two animated films about insects were released: a Bug’s Life and Antz. Even though a Bug’s Life is more anti-imperialism, both films have Marxist undertones (they’re especially strong in Antz).

Here’s a great scene from a Bug’s Life that shows the illusion of power:

According to ALB, Comrade Johnstone lived in Thailand, near the border with Laos. We’ve lost contact with him, and sadly don’t know what’s happened to him.
