ParticipantThe SPGB were also insulted by another group as 'renegades, liars, murderers or assassins. The SPGB, which associates itself with followers of Trotsky, the friend of Hess'.Presumably the wording chosen by the Standard and ECs to address Socialist Studies represented a reluctance to judge socialist understanding on the basis of insults. In any case, haven't the Studies group produced more original pamphlets than us over the same period?

ParticipantI suppose the point is it ought to be the case, not the face but rarely is the way voters judge candidates.

(I made a similar point in my post #80.)I disagree that this should be a “side show” for the SP, for a couple of reasons. The first is that this topic is currently one that currently engages the man and woman in street; walk into any pub and the patrons will have an opinion on the Corbyn question – much more so than more or less obscure thinkers from the 19th century (not that these discussions don’t have their place, not least the man himself, Marx – but you get my drift.)Secondly, because the democratic process is so central to what the SP stands for. If the SP ignores threats to democracy – especially the way it is blatantly and openly carried out for all to see over today’s social media – they are close to “sinning” against this famous poem by Pastor Martin Niemoeller:First they came for the CommunistsAnd I did not speak out Because I was not a Communist Then they came for the Socialists And I did not speak out Because I was not a Socialist Then they came for the trade unionists And I did not speak out Because I was not a trade unionist Then they came for the Jews And I did not speak out Because I was not a Jew Then they came for me And there was no one left To speak out for meIn other words, if democracy is being subverted, the SP should have an opinion on it, and speak out on behalf of those whose democratic rights are being threatened.Meel
Sorry YMS, this was what I was responding to when I said we needn't sympathise with persecuted Labour party members or leaders.

ParticipantNobody's being persecuted apart from Corbyn himself and people voluntarily signing up with the anti-working class Labour party. We don't need to be unpleasant about it but we don't need to show political sympathy with an opponent.

As I understand it, 'Capitalism and Other Kids Stuff' was not produced by the Video Production Committee. That's correct although of the four members responsible for its production I think two were members of the the Video Production Committee at the time.
From what I can glean, and I'm open to correction on this – the producers of 'Capitalism and Other Kids Stuff' did not join the VPD until the year after its release. So if you're not on the committee and don't mention the party and socialism, your video won't be endorsed by EC, but the video will be adopted semi-officially and spread widely anyway. If you are on the committee, do mention the party and socialism, you will be dismissed by the EC from the committee and your video 'disowned'.
