He would benefit from looking through past issues of the socialist standard, they are a living document to history. I was reading through all the old articles about the miner’s strikes and the dead end road that reformism and attempts to ameliorate capitalism have all reached.

Another attempt to resolve the contradictions, like a dog chasing its tale. The will to break the circle and really transform society is diverted into these projects. They all seem to end in disillusion, and sadly, with another generation thinking that socialism doesn’t work.

Thanks for all the replies. The Aberdeen group’s document sounds interesting. I’ll have a good look at the extracts that Marcos has posted. Once again, thanks to all of you.

I agree, I just saw a glimmer of hope and I thought maybe this would help. To most of us, socialism is the only Logical step forward, out of the current mess; we could change society overnight. It will come, maybe not in my lifetime, but one thing is for sure, we’ll either get socialism or barbarism! Thanks for your thoughts, guys.

In a world where the media is owned by a few the following quote seems more pertinent than ever:

“The ideas of the ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas, i.e. the class which is the ruling material force of society, is at the same time its ruling intellectual force. The class which has the means of material production at its disposal, has control at the same time over the means of mental production, so that thereby, generally speaking, the ideas of those who lack the means of mental production are subject to it. The ruling ideas are nothing more than the ideal expression of the dominant material relationships, the dominant material relationships grasped as ideas.”

Peak time broadcasts to reach receptive listeners would be propitious.  Would a radio station or slot be unrealistic?

Corbyn was quoting Marx today, in his response  to Theresa May he said, “They say history repeats itself—the first time as tragedy, the second time as farce—but by the umpteenth time it can only be described as grotesquely reckless”

I’m sure this could be said about much of what they attempt on a daily basis, not just Brexit.

LBC were asking people in the streets of Glasgow if they knew who these people were. One of the people interviewed thought Angela Smith was a comedy actress, close but maybe tragedian is closer. I’m no expert but I keep thinking of Plato’s philosopher kings. Just like more capitalism is supposed to save us, now it seems politicians who only follow facts will save us.
