    From the article above:

“Using the formulae found in Samuel Glasstone and Philip Dolan’s The Effects of Nuclear Weapons, some interesting results present themselves. First, if the Russians were to detonate their 10-kiloton nuclear weapon at a height of burst 587.6 feet above ground level, the ensuing fireball would not reach the ground. Thus, this “fallout free” detonation would not create the nuclear fallout zone that many Americans think results from a nuclear detonation. It would essentially result in a “clean” detonation.”

If this is true it cancels my previous comment about fallout being a reason for Russia to not use nukes.

I think in some older texts “spirit” is used more like we might use “consciousness” or “mind”. Hegel’s “Phenomenology of Spirit” isn’t about disembodied souls for example.

But anyone can use whatever words they like, the more important question is which ones are more likely to be misunderstood.

Watched a video last night and it made the point that if Russia was to use nuclear weapons in the Ukrainian conflict they would literally be shooting themselves in the foot since the nuclear fallout would be blown back all over Russia. Sounds correct.

“For example; in the ‘about’ description:”

It’s wrong and should be changed. But whoever thought that was some kind of selling point anyhow!?

Some more stats about enthusiasm for royalty among the young. Spoiler: They aren’t that enthusiastic.

Seemingly the RT and Sputnik website block is to do with an EU and UK ban in response to the invasion, rather than the sanctioning of individuals as I first thought. I knew they had stopped the TV station, and that social media sites weren’t allowing their content to be shared, but hadn’t realised actual access to the websites was blocked too. Seems not all the internet companies are doing it though.

Yep, Sputnik only through TOR for me. Interesting that one of the top menu items on that site is an article on how to use a VPN.

Also interesting that not all of the mobile operators are blocking access.

“They don’t seem to have banned TASS, have they?”

I can get Tass.com on my standard connection so it seems not.

I wonder where / if you can get a list of the banned websites?

If you can get it on your mobile, I’m guessing your network is not 3. I can’t get it on my mobile either, which is on that network.

But I can get around it by using TOR browser as I mentioned before. Possibly using a virtual private network (VPN) would have the same effect.

Has anyone else in the UK found that the RT.com website is now inaccessible? Seems ISPs have been forced to block it due to Russian sanctions. If you want to get around it you can download TOR browser and view it that way.

BTW I don’t think Alien’s comment is ‘pro-putin’, it’s just a description of what may have been taking place.

Lizzie45: “Which is it?”. Probably a bit of both. Mathematically speaking it’s possible that “a large section of the population is engrossed in the whole charade” while the majority of the population is not that bothered about it.

Looking at some YouGov surveys it looks like support for the monarchy is falling year on year. It looks like the trend for is starting to head towards the 50/50 level.

“What the hell is it all about?”

It’s an exercise in state and national identity building. On the surface quite a successful one it would seem. But, at a guess, I would have thought most of the population isn’t really that bothered.

“we already have Facebook, Twitter, and Youtube accounts.”

And the last YouTube video posted was five years ago…

Not to knock what people are doing but I was suggesting making your own content on those platforms rather than leaving comments. I doubt comments get much attention, too many bores doing that already.

Here’s some data rather than anecdotes:

    https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/americans-socialism-positive-axios-poll-b1874049.html

I would have thought the percentage would be higher in the UK, especially amongst the younger population. I believe AJ might have posted some figures on this a while back?

“The chance was lost the moment Lenin & Co. decided to steal the words socialism and communism.”

So what are you doing here if the chance has been lost?
