    The Smearing of Emma Watson

Emma Watson is part of an exponentially fast-growing choir of decent like-minded men and women of good faith all over the world, united in their belief that all people, irrespective of their ethnicity or their religion or their nationality, must have inalienable human rights, including the right to life and liberty and self-determination, from every river to every sea everywhere. That includes the long-suffering people of Palestine. The attempted weaponization of anti-Semitism against this movement not only weakens the term as a description of real fascist racism, but in fact serves to legitimate it. If criticizing cruel Israeli policies toward the Palestinians is anti-Semitic, then what is so wrong with anti-Semitism, so this misguided line of thinking goes. As Robert Fisk once noted, “if this continued campaign of abuse against decent people, trying to shut them up by falsely accusing them of anti-Semitism, continues, the word ‘anti-Semitism’ will begin to become respectable. And that is a great danger.”

Biden Implies Sanders — Not Manchin or Sinema — Is Obstructing Democratic Agenda

Biden appeared to snub left-leaning lawmakers in his party, implying that it’s progressives — not conservative Democrats — who are obstructing the president’s agenda.

“You guys have been trying to convince me that I am Bernie Sanders,” he said. “I’m not Bernie Sanders. I’m not a socialist. I’m a mainstream Democrat and I have been. And mainstream Democrats have overwhelmingly — if you notice, 48 of the 50 Democrats supported me in the Senate on virtually everything I’ve asked.”

I saw the criticism of MMT but didn’t want to create another banking thread to this and the 100% reserve topic.

As we expected more revelations are being made public concerning the conspiracy sedition trial.

Oath Keepers stockpiled a cache of supplies and weapons in a hotel just outside of Washington, D.C., in preparation for the January 6 Capitol attack, federal prosecutors have found.

    https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.azd.1285411/gov.uscourts.azd.1285411.7.0.pdf

According to the prosecutors’ memo arguing for the pretrial detainment of Oath Keepers member Edward Vallejo, he and other members of the so-called “quick reaction force” (QRF), transported weapons, ammunition and enough essentials to last 30 days into a Comfort Inn in Arlington, Virginia.

Kelly Meggs, dropped off “at least three luggage carts’ worth of gun boxes, rifle cases, and suitcases filled with ammunition” at the hotel on January 5. A North Carolina team brought rifles, which they kept in their cars in the parking lot.

The fact that the circumstances of Jan 6 did not pan out as they hoped, does not mean there was no serious intent to escalate the situation through violence or the potential threat of violence.

    Failing promises again

U.S. greenhouse gas emissions rose by 6.2% from 2020 levels last year as the use of coal-fired electricity jumped 17%.

Emissions growth outpaced the rate of economic recovery

“when it comes to BBC News, it is time we all grew up and rejected the absurd fiction of BBC ‘balance’ and ‘impartiality’. Over the past two decades, we have provided endless examples of deep BBC bias, distortions and omissions.”

Save The BBC? In Whose Interests?

In an extensive analysis of the BBC, political analyst Gavin Lewis gave ample evidence that the BBC has long been:

‘a full-blown corporate state broadcaster and propagandist.’

I think i mentioned before my lingering fear that we will have a repetition of the Unabomber.

Nikolaos Karvounakis claimed to be a member of the International Terrorist Mafia – a Mexican eco-terror group – after planting the homemade “bomb”
He pleaded guilty earlier to being in possession of items for a terrorist purpose at the High court in Edinburgh.

Karvounakis contacted a newspaper journalist sending a photo of it and described himself as a “lover of nihilist anti-political violence”.

Biden thinks Putin will “move in” on Ukraine, but does not want “full-blown war”.

Asked at a news conference about the threat of a Russian invasion, he said: “My guess is he will move in, he has to do something.”

But he warned that the Russian leader would pay a “serious and dear price” for “testing” the West.

My following comment agreed with what you said, Wez

“It may impose a bit more demand upon lay-out editor’s time, energy and resources, at a time when we find it difficult acquiring a volunteer for the task.”

I also when blogging come up against similar problems but I tend to ignore copyright rules as posts are more transient and if on the very rare occasions a copyright issue is raised, I can easily delete and replace. (Also I can adjust the sizes of images to a degree.)

I am fully aware that the Socialist Standard has to exercise far more caution.
