Our Existing System Made The Good Weaker And The Bad Stronger

This morning, in New Delhi, I saw a man (let us call him “the good man”) in a car driving as per the traffic rules when, suddenly, another person (let us call him “the bad man”), with a poster of the Chief Minister of one of the States of India on his car’s rear window, while driving rashly over took the former person’s car. When the good man objected to the rash driving and violation of the traffic rules, the bad man resorted to verbal abuse, uncivilized conduct and threat. The traffic police ignored the event and so did the people in the traffic. By the time I could reach the exact spot to offer assistance, the good man had already left. The good man had no option but to leave avoiding the situation of confrontation with bad man.The above incident forces us to think. Will there ever be a time when the good would have the courage and the strength to stand against the bad? It is neither fair nor justified that the good without courage and strength stands against the bad and suffers the defeat. Merely standing against the evil is not enough. The one who stands against the evil should have requisite strength and courage. That strength and courage comes from the system. When I think about today’s incident, I realize that those people in the traffic who ignored the incident were not to be blamed. If the system in which such things happen turns a blind eye to the bad doing the wrong to the good, what will the constituents (i.e. the normal people) of the system individually do? It is unfortunate that the bad has become so strong today that the good cannot even think of confronting the bad. It means that today’s system is supporting and backing the bad (the corrupt and the criminal) elements. Is it the system we want? Is it the system we want to leave for our kind? No, Of Course Not. In order to mend the system and make it favour the good over the bad, we have to empower the good people. We have to make sure that good people come into the existing system and change it- change it to make it encourage and support the good people and punish the bad people. We have to bring the good people into the system, into the government, in every sphere of governance- so that the system can be made good. A good system will, by default, promote the good people and discourage the bad and the anti-social elements. Only if our system is good, we can expect betterment of our country.Darren I think this was discussed in various threads and no doubt will keep popping up. But if you want socialism for your own selfish interests you are onto a loser. Better off selling cannabis, but avoid getting to greedy as that's so often where potentially lucrative crime fails.
Hi ParamjeetWhat you advocate has been tried over here in Britain and started off with good intentions, by most involved, in the trade union movement. The result was the Labour party, one of the 3 major political parties in Britain.Those early Labour party members had the same idea you propose, to get decent minded people from working class backgrounds in positions of power, in order to make capitalism a nicer system.To put it bluntly and simply that aim, as laudable as it was, failed miserably and the Labour party are yet another political party willing to manage capitalism, warts and all.What essentialy happened is the idealistic "good people" found they could not manage capitalism in the interests of the people and gradually the party became a distortion of what it intended to be. Along the way a few reforms were won for the workers but most of them have been eroded and the remaining few are under constant attack.It could almost be a book by J R R Tolkien. The "good people" got power but found they could not bring the beast of capitalism under their control and soon became the servants of capitalism.By all means Paramjeet try and tame the capitalist beast, get as many "good people" into positions of power, but you will soon find your hands are tide when you try to alter the natural course of capitalism.Global Socialist revolution is the only way to avoid the mistakes of past reformers,. At present all socialists can do is try and educate and persuade as many members of the working class as possible in the hope that the more people agree and work towards true lasting socialist change the quicker it will come about.
