    Greetings,

    I have two questions:

    1. If I wish to share some ideas with a member of EC or with Party Secretary, can someone guide me regarding their names, and contact details?
      1. How will I address them?
      2. Where will I send my email?
    2. If I wish to be in touch with a member of EC or someone with certain authority, who would it be?
      1. The reason is to discuss my ideas in time instead of waiting for a monthly meeting.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    David.

PS: Pardon my lack of knowledge which arises from fact that I have recently joined in.

That’s why I asked which part of the country you came from, so we could put you in touch with another member living locally to explain our procedures. Normally, the EC doesn’t deal directly with individual members but with them via branches. The Party’s email address is: spgb [at] worldsocialism.org if you want to reply there.

    Hey there ALB,

I am not from within UK. I am from outside UK. And I was interviewed by Howard Moss during application processing. Can we still find out a way for me?

    Thank you.

    Thank you, dear Alan.

But may I know their names? How may I call Sect & Asst. Sect?

How may I call Sect & Asst. Sect?

    “Comrade” 🙂

    Ok Comrades.

May I ask why the name must remain in secrecy?

I mean certainly I know the names of those who appeared on TV. For instance, Shannon made “Capitalism and Kids Stuff”, or Howard Moss appeared in some debates as others did too. Moss also conducted my interview.

Now my real name is not David for sure, but I shared my real name in the application I made to the SPGB, and so in fact the EC knows my real name.

Then why their names ought to remain secret from me?

    Regards,

    David.

PS: I hope you can forgive my curious nature, and that I have not offended anyone in aforesaid.

My reason for not giving it is that I do not actually know who is currently General Secretary or Assistant Secretary.

This lack of knowledge on my behalf reflects the relative lack of importance we attach to party positions and confirmation that we do not have any elites or leaders within our organization. General Secretaries come and go, they possess no special authority or any prerogatives above other members within the Socialist Party and their functions are purely administrative duties.

(In the past, it was the person who swept and cleaned the Head Office who received a payment for attendance other than expenses since we valued that work more important.)

    Hi David,

I dont think there is any problem with communicating personally with members of the EC although I am curious as to why you might want to.  As Alan  suggests, there is nothing special about EC members and we dont put them above anyone else.  You are quite at liberty to communicate with anyone in the SP, we are a party of equals.

I would just make one small observation  though  that some individuals, because of their personal circumstances, might be a little reluctant or anxious about having their names made too public – perhaps because of family or job reasons.  This is understandable.  I remember when I worked in the civil services many years ago I discovered to my horror that my many letters to the local press had been monitored over several years by Personnel (they actually kept copies on file).  Because of this I was actually required to give a firm assurance on leaving the job that I would not disclose any information relating to this establishment (amusing since I was merely a lowly “clerical officer”) It is quite conceivable that such information could have been passed on to future would-be employers asking for references (in my case that actually did happen when I applied to another branch of the civil service two or three years later! They had a record of my political activism which had been transferred from my original workplace).

I dont want sound overly conspiratorial or whatever but these things can and do happen and so we have to be a bit sensitive to the concerns of particular comrades in the organisation.  Personally I dont give a fig now if the powers-that-be know of my activities, – sod ’em!  – but others might be a bit more concerned

No doubt if you wrote to the Gen Sec the information you require would be communicated to you  in personal correspondence (it appears in minutes of the EC meetings anyway to which all members have access)   Alternatively, this forum could reinstate the old messaging facility to facilitate communication between individuals

    Hope this helps

    Best regards

    Robin

The names of all EC members are in the minutes of the EC meetings, which are published on this forum on a monthly basis.

Here is a link to the last EC minutes:

    https://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/forum/topic/july-2019-ec-minutes/

all meetings of the EC are open to the public, as are all SPGB and WSM meetings. We have no secret meetings or have any business which is not available to all party members. As Robbo states some members take on pseudo names on the forum and elsewhere because of personal and employment issues.

    Hope that helps.

By the way whatever happened to Bill Valinas (read surname backwards)

“By the way whatever happened to Bill Valinas”

He left the Party but then rejoined a few years ago using his real name.  He’s still a member – of South West Branch.

Are you aware of the class struggle, the class war and the nature of the capitalist state ?
