I like it.It's challenging without being sarcastic. It's not just having a dig, it's potentialy inviting.  It has a purpose.

Why are members still distributing this stupid and damaging marmite thing when they know that it has caused damage and is criticised by members and could be disavowed?http://socialismoryourmoneyback.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/private-eye-and-spgb.htmlIt doesn't express the Party case properly and is not even factually correct (are we opposed to Corbyn's policy of opposing and repealing anti-trade union laws? Are we against his anti-war stance? Are these "bs policies"?). Reproducing it on our blog is giving it wider distribution than originally and so credence to the false Private Eye allegation that we are engaged in "a ferocious media campaign" against Corbyn. Is it too late to take it down?

Just read in the papers that in the television debate last night between the 4 candidates Corbyn said he was in favour of the decriminalisation of cannabis.  I'm sure there will be some members who won't consider that a "bs policy".

I have asked the other members of the blog if they agree with your opinion, ALB and await their advice. Should they concur with your view it can be easily deleted.  But as you know, there are within this thread differing opinions on its use. Yours is just one critical voice but i don't doubt there are others who will agree with you. Others though might not.(I note, however, the Socialist Standard editors have not issued any statement to defend or apologise for their use of an image which has proved unpopular with some members, and that is just to say that this blogger is not the only one who will defend "editorial" independence)The image was inserted on the blog about the Press Release because i thought it appropriate to show what Private Eye was referring to and was purposefully placed alongside the Private Eye article and not in the usual place for a pic, an article which we re-published, unlike our press statement which chose to omit it and merely cite the source which few may likely go to. That too can be considered giving wider circulation to their criticsm and detrimental to the party publicity. The Party, IMHO, has nothing to hide and some members do consider that we should conduct a ferocious campaign against Corbyn despite what unwelcomed bed-fellows we may acquire. Other believe it should be more of a nuanced attitude and not risk alienating an potential audience…not really an issue for the SOYMB blog because we struggle to get any traffic and the reason is little to do with our coverage of Corbyn and more to do with indifference of fellow members who don't even visit the blog (your good self an exception, ALB) The blog has already been critical of Corbyn, accusing him of counterfeit socialism so we already are part of this "ferocious" campaign by reproducing a branch leaflet.http://socialismoryourmoneyback.blogspot.com/2015/08/jeremy-corbyn-counterfeit-socialism.htmlBut as i said…the other bloggers will have an input in whether it stays or goes…and we will take into account the general feel of all members who care to express a view.

Is the Marmite image different in context from the Leninism: 57 varieties all unfit for human consumption, a Solidarity cartoon in their pamphlet As we see it? Wasn't this used in the Standard once or even on the cover?http://theoryandpractice.org.uk/library/more-lenin-or-less-lenin-socialist-standard-2004

Is Derek Wall aware of the discussion going on in this forum?  It might be an idea to point him in this direction and perhaps also invite him to contribute to it..

But i am also aware that his opinion is not unanimous. As i have said in the past, anyone who disagrees with a specific post on the SOYMB blog is very welcome, nay, urged , to make use of the blog's comment facility to place their opinion on the blog itself. .

Now, as a result of the blog item, it's been re-tweeted (scroll down):https://twitter.com/officialspgbPeople will think we're proud of it and that we are indeed waging a "ferocious media campaign" against Corbyn. Why don't members think before they shoot?

I'll tell you something though; there are many more members who profoundly disagree that we should "disavow" the Marmite image and are more than content to be part of a "ferocious" campaign against Corbyn and all that he represents.Socialists are therefore hostile, not in the sense of committing violent acts against other parties or their members, but to the ideas of those parties which support capitalism. That hostility extends to aspiring leaders of those parties.

Come to think of it, there is nothing there indicating that we are hostile to individuals? We oppose Corbyn's ideas, not Corbyn. We urge him and his supporters to 'muster under our banner' Not to be hostile towards them.
