This monochrome logo has been adopted by the EC for use on ballot papers and will used for the first time in the May General Election.  The image will be reduced to 2cm x 2cm in accordance with Electoral Commission requirements.

The total number of households in the 10 constituencies we have chosen is just under half a million. So that will be the number of election addresses we'll have delivered by Royal Mail

At its meeting last Saturday the EC also adopted the Party's manifesto for the election. It chose the following out of the three submitted:

    Quote:
Everyone in the driving seatEver felt voting was a waste of time?Usually, this is true, because the big parties support the current system. They change a few laws, shift money around; but in the end profits always come first and those on top stay on top.Is this the only way?  We can put space probes onto comets, restore sight to the blind and perform triple heart bypass operations:  we have the brains to sort out a better system, one where we will be producing to satisfy people’s needs not for profit, where no one has to live in poverty while an elite are wealthy beyond imagining. The Socialist Party believes in a society of cooperation, in helping each other, not exploiting our neighbours. We believe that power should be shared, not  in the hands of a greedy few.Who controls how much you are paid, where you work, when you work or even if you work? Who decides how much it costs you to live where you are? You probably have almost no say in any of these issues which have a big effect on you. But what can you do about it?Those who benefit from the present system would have you believe there is no alternative. It helps them if you believe it – although it does nothing for you.You don’t have to believe you are powerless.  If you choose not to support this any more and vote socialist you will be one of an increasing number questioning the system.  You will be signalling your consent to a world cooperative society where wealth is produced and owned in common and freely shared according to need. A truly democratic society where decisions are made for the common good rather than for the gain of vested business interests. Where you have as much say as the next person regardless of position in life or occupation.Voting socialist means rejecting this market system entirely and that you want everybody to sit in the driving seat.

A letter sent to the Sunderland Echo today. G Whitter, Echo Thurs 22nd Jan, is the latest correspondent to the Letters Pages of the Echo to misrepresent what "Socialism" really is.It isn't Nationalisation, nor can it be placed, or enacted within the boundaries of a single country. Socialism is and can only exist, within a world wide framework, to replace world wide Capitalism. It is a system of society, where what is produced, will be produced for direct "human use", not as at present, to be bought and sold for profit, for the benefit of a few.The means and instruments for producing what we, as humans need, will be owned by "us all" in common and as we all freely contribute to this production, we will all freely take of the resultant bounty. The above can be best summed up by the quote " 'From' each according to 'ability', 'to' each according to 'need' ".None of the above, nor indeed the many other ideas which encompass the Socialist ethos, can be linked in any way, shape or form to Labour, nor countries such as China, Cuba, N.Korea, nor indeed the old USSR. These were and are, supporters of Capitalism and share the classic indicators of the same.Just because some place false large ears and a trunk on an dog, it does not make it an Elephant. If it barks like a dog and growls like a dog, I've found it invariably is a dog!A lesson G. Whitter, J. Watson, M. Brown et al would do well to heed!!! Steve Colborn.                       0191-5817830Prospective Parliamentary Candidate,The Socialist Party.

Hi there Dave, I wasn't aware that I will be standing under the Title, The Socialist Party of Great Britain. I thought it was GB!

Yes I know Steve.  But unfortunately we were only given the option of selecting a name from their drop down list and 'Socialist Party (GB)' wasn't one of them.  So it was either a question of selecting 'The Socialist Party of Great Britain' or not appear on the list of prospective candidates for each particular constituency.

So we, as a Party, are being dictated to? Somehow, that seems wrong!

Contacted the site myself. Spoke to a member of this site and asked them to change the name to; The Socialist Party (GB).I would expect someone from HO to contact them also, to change any other "inapproprate" listings.

First correspondence of the Election campaign in the Sunderland Echo. Although they've missed out in the address that I'm contesting Easington Constituency as a Socialist Party candidate; Nothing Marxist about LabourSORRY Mr Brown (January 13) but you go too far. You state: “Yet we face the same Marxist, ideological driven agendas under Ed Miliband”.However, you ignore the important fact that Ed Miliband is not a Marxist, nor is his brother, nor was his father Ralph. Moreover, Labour has never advocated, much less instituted, any policy or legislation, that even the most rabid right wing supporter of capitalism (or left wing supporter for that matter) could in any way link to Marx. Marx advocated a classless, stateless, exchangeless world society, where the statement “‘From’ each according to ability, ‘to’ each according to need” was the driver and moreover, that this societal change could only come about, when the majority understood it, wanted it and, most importantly, cooperated to bring it about. Nothing, I repeat, nothing in the writings of Marx advocated anything that could in any way be linked to Labour. Those who continue to claim otherwise can charitably be called confused or mischievous, more seriously, deliberate political wreckers and liars.Steve Colborn,Seaham

Here's the article in the South Wales Evening Post:

    Quote:
The Socialist Party of Great Britain has announced plans to contest ten constituencies at the General Election –including Swansea West. The election on Thursday, May 7th, will see the party take on its largest campaign since it first stood a candidate in the 1945 vote."The Socialist Party offers the only alternative to the profit system," said prospective candidate Brian Johnson who has been selected to contest Swansea West. "We stand for the common ownership and democratic control of the resources of the world. Production just for use where goods and services are provided to meet people's needs, not for sale on a market or for profit."The party will also stand candidates in constituencies including Oxford East and West, Canterbury, Folkestone and Hythe and Brighton Pavilion.
