    An Italian translation here:

Meanwhile an updated version has been prepared and will be considered at the meeting of the EC on Saturday.

We should publish articles in other languages in the Socialist Standard.

It is a common practice within the Marxist Leninists groups. Right now Spanish is the most spoken of the Romance language in the whole world, and it is already the second spoken language in the USA.

There are a couples of cities in Florida where they have signs that read: English is also spoken here.

During the 60-70 most organizations when they had public meeting ( and Congress ) they had translators seating next to the sympathizers.

We are living in our small mental island surrounded by workers from different backgrounds and cultures

There are various events this Saturday in different cities and towns up and down the country.

Members in Bristol, Cardiff, Lancaster, Oxford, Yorkshire and Glasgow have leaflets to cover those in these places. Some will be distributed in London too. Southampton and Portsmouth have already been leafleted.

A demonstration of over 200 in Hounslow in west London was leafleted this lunchtime. Mainly Muslims but that would be normal for the area.

Among the “Free Palestine” placards was one that said “Boycott Starmer’s Labour Party” and “Don’t Vote for Cadbury” (the local Labour MP). She’s a Quaker (yes, of that family) but didn’t vote for a ceasefire. I thought they were supposed to be pacifists. Also chants of “local councillors, shame!” Only one resigned. I think she was one of the speakers:

Apart from us only the SWP were there. Not sure if they would agree with not voting Labour.

About 80 leaflets given out to a similar size (maybe 500 at a stretch) demo in Camden: rally outside the townhall, on speaker called for a campaign to unseat Starmer (which would be funny). Had a wee chat with an American from Revleft, who, although their position is similar (get rid of capitalism) thought our leaflet was a bit even handed. Also had a chat with a lady who seemed to remember an Iranian member of ours who did catering at conference, before my time(?)

Also had a few people who’d never heard of us, and thought we were a new party…

    Report about Oxford:

“It was a bit smaller this week. Probably got rid of about half of those fliers. Was rather cold though. Oxford itself was jammed with Xmas shoppers. Who were on the whole supportive from the side lines. The police did arrest one lone anti protester.”

    Report from Lancaster

We gave out about 200 leaflets at a small and rather desultory Pro-Palestine gathering in the town centre, focused around a small Palestine merchandise table which was easy to miss among all the busy market stalls. Somebody bawled something incomprehensible through a megaphone but the Christmas crowds didn’t seem to pay much attention. One passer-by wanted to know if we’d found Jesus. Another asked where all the proceeds from the Palestine flags and caps went – was it to Hamas? We didn’t know either. Lancaster has two universities so one might have expected this ‘rally’ to be larger than it was. Don’t know if they’ll be back next Saturday.

    Report from Bristol:

“The march was great, people were extremely welcoming and receptive to the flyers, I got to give out many and I even went out of the march to give to people who were on the sidelines just watching. I told them to check out our website and if they agree, to get in contact. Hopefully that will create a little buzz and get more people interested in the only solution to this mess.

Only con I can think of is there was a strong SWP presence there basically doing the same thing as me, however they seemed to only give out leaflets to the marchgoers and were really nice too, so that was good.

From the amount of leaflets I was able to give out and the people that seemed genuinely interested in having a chat I definitely think this is something the party should get more involved with, especially in reaction to events such as benefit/tax cuts, big strikes, wars and so on.”

Also had a chat with a lady who seemed to remember an Iranian member of ours who did catering at conference, before my time(?)

I remember such a person during my very first encounter with the SPGB when I was a wee girlie – he was helping with catering at an event at Head Office.

He described himself as Armenian and was very friendly.

[Edited to remove initials, please don’t give identification of individuals – YMS, Mod].

Oh, for goodness sake, YMS. How do initials give identification of individuals ?

You’re letting this power role of Moderator go to your head and it’s causing you to become more and more autocratic.

Almamater was on the money after all.

There’s another national demonstration in London this Saturday:

Naturally we will be leafletting again, with in fact an updated version of our leaflet.

What a pity capitalist society is not even more murderous than it actually is – think of all the many more leafleting opportunities it would provide!

And the many more corresponding failures to change minds!

Four members and sympathisers handed out between 900 and 1000 leaflets yesterday in and around the national demonstration in London.

There were of course plenty of Trotskyist ones available but also a leaflet denying human-made climate change and denouncing a cashless society and another about war crimes committed by Ukraine.

The statute of Churchill in Parliament Square was protected by 12 policemen and women completely surrounding it.
