TM -‘Socialism is not an ideology, it is social awareness.’
One doesn’t necessarily exclude the other. One of the main reasons I try not to use the terms ‘Marxist’ or Marxism’ is because to do so implies that it was a separate ideology from Socialism. As I say, when we use the term ‘ideology’ we refer to the prejudice and class conditioning of other ideologies. Being aware of these factors (thanks in no small measure to Marx) helps us to transform socialism into more of a ‘social science’ than just another ideology. Nevertheless we can trace the history and development of socialism from its utopian (ideological) roots into the coherent synthesis of history, economics and politics that we have today.

Marx defined ideology as the ideas that uphold the conceptions of the ruling class in every epoch; Engels also defined it as false consciousness, or a distortion of reality.

Therefore, socialism is not an ideology because the working class is not and will not be a ruling class; on the contrary, it is going to establish a society without social classes, without a ruling class, without distortion of our social reality

Socialism will provide self-class consciousness and real social awareness to the whole world working class, and all ideologies of all kinds will be rejected.

Socialists are and should be against all ideologies

Better correct “with” to “without” before “social classes”, or Wez will pick up on it!

I am resting my case: There is no fascism, there are no fascists, and socialism is not an ideology, and it is not a doctrine either, even though Engels used the expression: doctrine in a different context. Later on, he called socialism/communism a movement

I’m resting my case too. Cannot keep repeating myself.

Well that’s that then. The high Priest has spoken. As usual his more didactic and preachy statements make his socialism sound more like a religion rather than an evolving corpus of ideas.

When the thoughts of a leader or philosopher are taken as eternal truths, without their historical context, they turn into a religion with its dogmas and sacred book. We must be dialectical materialists with Marx’s ideas, as you have been so far!

I forgot to mention in my last message ( I can’t edit it ) that socialism is not going to be an economic system; it is a social production, or a society of freely associated labourers
