Not bad…front-runner until others get busy with their own imaginative inputBut historically… how many Old Labours has there been?

OK, I admit it, declaring he would never press the button is genius: he has the mandate, and if PM it would be a democratic mandate to have but not use nukes.

It depends on: their style of delivery – which always changes, their decision making process – which has gone through several historical changes, and their projection of opposition – which depending on the circumstances can be consensual or confrontational.   However, historically, other than Blair, this is the first time that all these changes have converged in one fell swoop. So in that respect its Old Labour MkII.

Before the moderator declares his own suggestion the winner and closes down the debate on name by suspending all those with other suggestions for deviating from the thread , perhaps it should go to the Off-Topic to continue and leave this one for the more serious discussion.

When the Labour Party supports a strike, when they are in power, then I might have some respect for them. Only respect, not support.

Alan, you ask me why, "The 4th. Way."   The First and Second way are left and right wing politics. Blair, with New Labour, came up with, " the 3rd. Way." A way of encouraging private enterprising business, while at the same time, taking the sting out of rampant capitalism. Any hope the blairites had of taming capitalism quickly vanished and New Labour became indistinguishable from the Tories. Corbyn puts a new slant on an old Labour policy. That of Nationalisation. In the past, industries were nationalised and run by  government departments , in " the interest of the people." (we say that industries are nationalised to be able to use tax payers money to improve and modernise, before being put back in the hands of private business.) Corbyn's aim is to put selective industries in the hands of a coalitian of tax payers, private business and government. Not to be sold off when profitable. To my knowledge, this has never been tried in this country. This then is" Labour's 4th. Way."

Heard from a member of our Advertising Committe yesterday that the Morning Star is refusing our adverts apparently because we didn't support Corbyn's campaign to become Labour Leader. It's not clear whether this is an official political position by the paper or just a personal decision by somebody in their advertising department.

http://www.peoplesmomentum.com/So, Corbyn's election campaign being turned into a ginger group: interesting not relying on Labour Representation Committee, although that will still be around…But, maybe a page like that wouldn't hurt for us…

There's a local council by-election in Northfield Brook ward (part of the Blackbird Leys estate) in Oxford on 22 October. TUSC are contesting it. Their leaflet shows they are trying to jump on the Corbyn bandwagon:

    Quote:
WE NEED TO BACK CORBYN'S CALL TO STOP THE CUTS IN OXFORD! VOTE JAMES MORBIN

    is its headline. And

    Quote:
Labour, under their new leader Jeremy Corbyn stands clearly against cuts. Sadly this has not filtered down to Labour Councillors in Oxford yet (….) We call on Oxford Labour council and all councillors to back Jeremy Corbyn's call to stop the council cuts. We will back 100% any councillor who refuses to vote for cuts.

So this is going to be their tactic from now on, instead of calling for a Labour Party Mark 2.  Whether it will work is another matter. Their problem is that Labour doesn't need their support. The leaflet also calls on people to join the "Socialist Party" which is says supports TUSC. We don't of course and members and sympathisers will be leafletting the ward urging people who want a system "where the places where wealth is produced will no longer be owned by profit-seeking businesses but will be owned and democratically controlled by all" to write "WORLD SOCIALISM" across their ballot paper.
