THE BIRTH AND DEATH OF LANGUAGES
Languages become endangered and can even die out when they are not passed on to new generations. In other circumstances new languages (pidgins and creoles) can emerge. In these cases the lives of speakers have generally been disrupted in various ways. We will look at how and why such developments occur, and the implications this can have for the people involved. More on this subject here.
