Cut and pasted from my blog:"A few snippets of info: Fred Leigh was a founder member of the SPGB, and lapsed from membership in January 1914. Paul Dumenil and A. Barker were also found founder members of the SPGB."

Comment cut and pasted from when I originally posted on the Socialist Standard Past and Present blog:A quick search on the internet doesn't reveal much about the magazine subjected to Jacomb's sarcasm but I'm guessing it was in some way connected to the Anti-Socialist Union. I really wish I could find that cartoon, though.

"In this connection a reward of £5 is offered—for particulars apply 27, York Road, Ilford." 27, York Road, Ilford was the address of the Branch Secretary of the local SPGB Romford Branch. I'm guessing they were hoping to deal with this matter themselves without involving the police.

The Social Democratic Party mentioned in the editorial was the new name for the Social Democratic Federation. They'd had a 're-boot' a couple of years before.

FYI, Hervé is quoted of approvingly in this 1909 article, but he became a French version of Blatchford a few years after.

No friends round here . . . just comrades, ex-comrades and apostates. I thought your schtick was that you "knew" the SPGB?

You're not wrong there Vim. If workers had to pay for treatment it stands to reason there would be less illness. The NHS has hollowed out the working class, making it, ironically, fit for nothing.

(With reference to the bolded bit in your post)As someone who lives in the States, I know from bitter experience that this is absolute bollocks.

Apologies for any inadvertent misunderstanding in my original post. I'm not working to full capacity atm.
