Lord Buckethead gets more votes than us, 249. Personally I think we should really reconsider this fixation with standing in every election.. I know some people are keen on them but really do the figures show that it's worthwile?

Haven't seem any figures yet but looks like the youth "anti-austerity" vote played a strong role.

I think they'd also disagree that there is such a thing as a "boss class" too ;)

The second one is contradictory, not meaningless.I could say a "blumba" is a square circle. That's a meaningful definition though self contradictory one..It's the difference between synthetic and analytic truths, if there is such a difference. But there you go…I think our main concern should be how to effectively engage with people not philosophy of language…

The meaning of words comes from how people use them. That's how language works.I'm sure most people don't use "socialism" the exact same way as we do. But a poll like suggested in the original post would be like taking a poll of the meaning of the word "gay" and then when most people say "homosexual" saying "No – gay means happy!"Defintions are not things that can be true or false only used inconsitsently or not.A better approach would be to get people to think about what they think "social ownership" would entail if that is what they mean by "socialism". Telling people they are wrong because they don't share common definitions just shuts down dialogue. It should be more about using things as a way of opening up dialogues.

On the Twitter update thread I made the final post on 10 April at 9.55am yet the date shown for the last update is 24 April at 6.10pm.  I can categorically assure you that I have not bumped the thread or edited it in anyway since it was originally posted.  Now explain that one away.

24 April at 6.10pm would have been the last time that anyone edited any of the comments on that thread.I agree that it's a bit annoying if edits cause the thread to bump like that, I'll see if I can stop it doing that on the new version of the site.

Like has been said before, if someone edits a post this will bump it to the top of the list since the list is sorted by the date of when a post was last updated. It's not a bug, that's how it's set up.

Does social average basically mean that if it takes 1 hour for you to do one thing, and it takes 3 hours for me to do the same thing, the social average is 2 hours (combined labour time divided by the number of individuals working)?

    No it doesn't mean that.

Value is not price and it is not actual concrete labour time. It's the socially necessary average labour time taken to produce something. Does that help?

Does a big lump of coal represent more value than a small lump of coal?Yes, but not because a large lump of coal gives more utility than a small one.Coal and usually vegetables etc are sold by weight, and kilo of any particular batch of coal or veg is going to represent the same amount of value on a kilo per kilo basis, that's what we are interested in..

FWIW Periscope would be a bad choice for streaming party meetings (I don't think we should be streaming business meetings though!) as it restricts the audience to people who have the app. It's better to stream on Facebook or Youtube, it's pretty easy to do if you have decent web connection just download a free streaming program such as OBS and go from there.you also need a decent webcam / camera and mics for it to be worth doing…
