    WORLD SOCIALIST PARTY (NEW ZEALAND) – General Administrative Committee Meeting

    Held at 51 Weymouth Road, Manurewa, Auckland

     

    DATE:                                     Sunday 4th November 2012.

     

    CHAIRPERSON:                     T Lovatt.  Moved M Grayson, 2nd V Lovatt.

     

    OPEN:                                     2:15pm.

    PREVIOUS MINUTES/ERRORS & OMISSIONS:                  

     

    Minutes for October read.  M Gribble moved the previous minutes be accepted, M Grayson 2nd.  Previous minutes accepted.

     

    DISCUSSION ARISING FROM PREVIOUS MINUTES:

     

    1.             Trial Skype between Auckland and Wellington next month for the December GAC meeting.

    2.             WSPNZ is unable to set up a radio station at the house of T and V Lovatt because they are moving.  Set up radio station in Waiuku instead.

     

    CORRESPONDENCE:            

     

    1.             Socialist Party of Canada – Newsletter for November received via email.

                    C Matene moved the correspondence be accepted, A Coombs 2nd.  Correspondence accepted.

     

    LITERATURE SECRETARY’S REPORT:

     

    Socialist Standards for the last two months have been posted out to subscribers.  Book posted to J Ryder.

     

    TREASURER’S REPORT:       

     

    M Gribble presented the monthly and annual financial reports and moved to accept and pay any outstanding accounts, M Grayson 2nd.  Treasurer’s report for October and annual financial report for 2012 accepted.

     

    GENERAL BUSINESS:

     

    1.             T Lovatt contacted lobbyist Sue Henry.  She is currently a member of the National Party, but her views are in line with Socialism.

    2.             Discussion on whether any feedback from the radio station has been received.  No feedback received so far.  There are approximately half a dozen schools currently within the WSPNZ broadcasting area in Manurewa.

    3.             Smaller articles and recordings would be much more effective on the radio station than entire talks and interviews.

    4.             Make ourselves known to other groups like Zeitgeist etc. as there could be potential Party members.  The Socialist Party have held a debate with the Zeitgeist group on various topics including religion and a world without money.

    5.             GAC meeting was closed at 2:45pm, and Auckland Branch meeting was taking place.  M Gribble moved that the Auckland Branch meeting be suspended to re-open the GAC meeting, C Matene 2nd, all in favour.  Branch meeting suspended and WSPNZ GAC meeting re-opened at 3pm.

    6.             Discussion on a writing competition encouraging children to enter and participate.  Auckland Branch member M Gribble moved a motion to ask the GAC for funds not exceeding $200 to run an essay writing competition in Auckland, C Matene 2nd, all in favour.  Three volunteers for a committee to judge the essays in the writing competition were nominated at the Auckland Branch meeting.  C Malins, G Coffey and C Matene were nominated and accepted.  Winner of competition will have the prize posted to their school.  Advertise competition details and allow four weeks for the duration of the competition.  Then allow another three weeks for judging and publishing the results.  Participants to include their name, age, school and email details.  Topic: Imagine a World Without Money.  Essay approximately 200 words.  Winning result will be published in the local newspaper and on the website.  Participants must be between the age of 12-16 years (intermediate and secondary students).  Prize of $50 voucher.  Email essays to nzsocialists@gmail.com
