Donald Trump says Venezuela airspace now closed as tensions surgeUS President Donald Trump declares the airspace above and surrounding Venezuela should be considered “closed in its entirety” in the latest escalation of tensions between the two countries.
The US president’s statement comes as Trump’s administration piles pressure on Venezuela with a major military deployment in the Caribbean that includes the world’s largest aircraft carrier.
Venezuela condemns Trump’s social media post describing it as a “colonialist threat” that constitutes “new, extravagant, illegal, and unjustified aggression”.US forces have carried out air strikes against more than 20 alleged Venezuelan drug-smuggling vessels in the Caribbean Sea and eastern Pacific Ocean since early September, killing more than 80 people.
