Not a fan of the mans club. But I have to admit, rivalry aside. Well done Marcus Rashford MBE. Even the Daily Star has waded in. Can’t post their front page?

I’m always wary of joining in these sorts of campaigns: the right can enjoy them just as much, after all, in a fascist dictatorship, there are o corrupt MPs.
Lets remember, payment of MPs was a chartist demand, and MPs do need to earn enough to be independent.
Lets not forget, that free school meals is a means tested benefit: why not free food for all children? Let’s not get played by Labour’s “The Poor are always with us” schtick.October 24, 2020 at 1:45 am #208507alanjjohnstoneKeymaster

Link above re Daily Star, front page doesn’t work? So I’ve added it here in reply to this tweet

Thatcher, Thatcher, the milk snatcher!
I have a vague memory as a little kid of this being played out.
James: is the idea of herd management back on their books… Sterilise the unproductive, the criminal and the dependant!
Take away the food and we become compliant, or more docile to idealogical induction due to nutrient denial.
Give my ability to reproduce for a bowl of soup. Yet it seems to go against market numbers- big numbers requires population growth.October 24, 2020 at 6:33 am #208518robbo203Participant

Alan, I can’t see a name on that article, but it reads horribly like the sort of thing I would write…October 24, 2020 at 7:43 am #208520ALBKeymaster
This was a big issue at the time the party was formed in 1904. The first issue of the Socialist Standard in a article in “Physical Deterioration” pointed out;
“We are told that over 100.000 school children in London alone go breakfastless to school. For them there is little hope for a sturdy manhood. Arrest the progress of physical deterioration amongst the children through the provision of meals by the State to all school children and you will do much to strengthen the physique and stamina of the race.”
Why is it still a problem 116 years later?
Not because the Tories are the nasty party and seem to revel in it but because capitalism is the nasty system.October 24, 2020 at 10:01 am #208523L.B. NeillParticipant
It has been an issue for too long.
Are the wigs the Tories don made of real real human hair? Kind of upset the idea of Tory vs Whig.
This issue should not be argued in any democracy- food should not be political- not ever.
If food is political in capital- then food security is a commodity.
Some of us live on a diet of shite and onions, some live on lobster, and some live on air plankton.
It is still a problem 116 years later because the mode has not changed.October 24, 2020 at 10:55 am #208525
While Marcus Rashford has a petition on this. It has 677,504 signatures on far.
If you can do one thing for me tonight, sign the petition 👇🏾https://t.co/FvvpO71zOv
It’s time we put party politics aside and worked together to find a long-term sustainable solution to child food poverty in the UK.
Implement the 3 asks.
I appreciate you all ♥️

Another petition on Change.org has been made. It has been said many times before, this is not what Change.org is for!😡

Petitions galore. So many outraged, well-meaning people. And yet not one glimmer of real socialist consciousness among them.
We shouldn’t be petitioning our beloved leaders but telling them the time has come to get on their bikes.
Time for an open letter to Mr Rashford maybe?October 26, 2020 at 11:58 am #208589
Fake news? Why would the media (BBC for one) not mention that this UK terrorist was an ex Tory, ex UKIP member?
Former Tory councillor jailed for 14 years for lacing jars of Heinz baby food with metal shards. Nigel Wright is also the former chairman of the Grimsby Conservatives and a failed UKIP parliamentary candidate. #ICYMI https://t.co/zGR1qgAjSq

Hi Rodshaw, great idea. This was probably missed the deadline for the Socialist Standard to cover?
Glad it was taken up brilliantly by comrades running Twitter page! 👏👏👏👏👏
Only under capitalism is saving money more important than hungry children being fed. There is no obstacle to progressing from today’s backward money-hamstrung economy to an unrestricted cooperative voluntaristic moneyless free-access socialist economy. We only have to opt for it. pic.twitter.com/LfGyMQQHhN
