https://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/socialist-standard/2016/2010s/no-1344-august-2016/editorial-donald-trump-no-workers-champion/. It has been said many times that there is not president able to alter or modify the economic base of a class society. It was told to several nationalists of this forum, that the market prevails and presidents must follow. Real peace under capitalism is a false illusion, and there is not capitalist president who will represent the interest of the working class

They are not protecting the Syrian Oil field , they are looting the oil fields for the benefits of the USA corporation. ISIS was doing the same thing in Iraq

People here may recall that before this site was hacked and this forum became inaccessible there was an ongoing discussion about an alleged chemical attack by the Syrian government on rebels in Douma, a suburb of Damascus, in April 2018.

The Western media, taking the cue from their governments, was saying that it was the Syrian government but, because on the face of it the government had no need to do this as it was winning the civil war and knew that the West would attack them if it did, people here were urging caution.  The  West did bomb Syria, in support of the rebels they had sponsored in a bid to bring about “regime change”  and establish a pro-West government there. We issued this anti-war statement:

    https://www.worldsocialism.org/spgb/socialist-standard/2010s/2018/no-1365-may-2018/response-syrian-air-attacks/

Later, after the government won control of the area, it allowed inspectors from the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons in to check what had happened. The OPCW eventually issued a report saying that chemical weapons (chlorine) had been used, so justifying after the fact the Western bombing.

It now emerges that this report was doctored, as explained in this article by Peter Hitchens in the Mail on Sunday:

    https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7718627/Sexed-dossier-furore-alleged-poison-gas-attack-Assad.html

The same scenario, then, as over the Weapons of Mass Destruction allegedly  possessed by the Saddam Hussein government in Iraq that was used as a pretext for the Western capitalist powers to go to war there, and which were afterwards found not to have existed.

that story did break over two weeks ago.

it is a bit of a surprise that it has appeared anywhere in the nainstream media.

although hitchens in the mail for some reason is the only one who does this kind of stuff along with perhaps the Indepenant.

RT news has also been running it for a while.

The recent deaths among the Turkish armed forces that have invaded Syria has heightened tensions in the area between Turkey and Russia as each pursues its strategic interests in the East Mediterranean area. Russia to protect its naval base at Tartus in Syria and Turkey its search for offshore oil and territorial expansion to protect its southern border.

Meanwhile, as usual in wars, it is the innocent inhabitants of the area that suffer as they seek to escape the combat zone.

Peoples in that region have been suffering from wars since petroleum was discovered. How long can they continue living under the same conditions?

Interesting historical article here on how Turkey acquired a strategic region which would have been part of Syria, still a bone of contention between the two states and which could become significant if the war between them becomes “official”

Well, well. It was only Parliament that prevented Cameron doing a Blair and going over the top. So it does have its uses even under capitalism. In any event, more effective than extra-parliamentary marches and protest demonstrations which failed to stop similar action in Iraq.

War is now raging, with ‘allied forces’ (American war planes) fighting (is it separatist) rebels. Bombing schools and hospitals. Turning hospitals to piles of rubble, in the middle of a pandemic! This beggars belief. 😡

The media always relies that their headlines remain in the memory but that actual facts are conveniently forgotten.

Alan: ‘She isn’t an unbiased neutral observer’ –

Are the BBC, the Guardian, etc etc, neutral and unbiased? I prefer to relate to trusted/honest sources.
