The government will today recommend that regional health officials eliminate around 450 prescription drugs from the state-paid medical program beginning on Sunday, when a new co-payment plan also goes into effect.
The Health Ministry will propose the list of drugs “for minor symptoms” during the council meeting of the regional health authorities. Among the pharmaceuticals that will no longer be paid for by the social security system are medicines for gastric disorders and constipation, creams for dermatitis, psoriasis and hemorrhoids, and some decongestants.
This will be the first meeting of the council since the government issued a decree limiting health services for people who don’t have residency papers and authorizing the regions to charge a co-payment on prescription drugs.
