Interesting article on the disturbing rise of far-right ideas and nostalgia for the Franco era. It might very well boost electoral support for the Vox party, come the next elections….

Shows how mixed up they are.

Wonder how many of them are up early for Sunday Mass after being on the town Saturday night. Franco would fix that alright.

When people enjoy, and encourage their children to enjoy, setting live bulls on fire, then nothing surprises me.

With Spain back in the news, falling foul of the Orange Blob over NATO, it is worth noting that things are not looking good for the ruling PSOE government. Probably, there will be a new PP government in alliance with the ultra-right VOX party in 2027

If the far right are against the EU’s obsession with war with Russia, are they not then preferable, as Orban was in Hungary?

Isn’t this taking you to a strange place?

If we want to see socialism, then a nuclear war must never happen. The present suicidal madness of the EU, with not even any evidence that I can see of capitalist interest therein, pushing a US line that the US has itself abandoned, could end us all.

France’s “far right” too (never sure what “far right” is supposed to mean today) has opposed Macron’s rush to militarise.

“Far Right” seems to me just a term thrown out by neo-Leninists to justify their continued existence, like the epithet “fascist.”

Interesting article on the views of VOX and the Spanish Far Right, which does not seem to be opposed to supporting Ukraine in the Ukraine-Russia war

In any country where the left has governed for several years, the right-wing populists are obtaining support from the working class

The most anti-(the word)socialism are eastern Europeans who were under Bolshevik rule.

It is like an epidemic of “anti communist ” workers. That is the legacy left by the Soviets, which means that without them, socialism would have been in a much better state in our time. They are called ‘poor fascists’ by the Leninists

PS: “Facho” (often used in the plural “fachos” or “fachos pobres”) is a colloquial, pejorative Spanish term in Latin America (especially the Southern Cone—Argentina, Chile, Uruguay) for a fascist, a right-wing authoritarian, or someone who supports reactionary, anti-liberal, or far-right ideologies.

“Facho pobre” (literally “poor fascist”) is a specifically derogatory phrase used to describe a person with low socioeconomic status who holds far-right or conservative views that are seen as opposing their own economic interests, often associated with nationalism, elitism, or a desire for strict order.

Literal Meaning: Short for fascista (fascist).
Context: It is a slang, derogatory insult.
Characteristics: It often implies a person who is conservative, authoritarian, anti-left, and sometimes discriminatory towards foreigners or minorities.
“Facho pobre” connotation: Implies a cognitive dissonance or contradiction, where someone of limited means supports a ruling elite or policies that typically favour the wealthy.

    English Equivalents:
Fashy (derived from “fash,” short for fascist).
    Right-wing nutjob (colloquial).
    Reactionary/Authoritarian (formal).
    Fascist pig (strong insult).

When they elect the left-wingers, they are called heroes and progressive

Except that there is no “if”, because the Bolsheviks did come along and so could not have.
