It concerns a Labour Party member and trade union official who was dismissed for his views. The employment tribunal ruled that he had been discriminated against for his beliefs. More on the background to the case here:

According to the report, the tribunal was told that "leftwing democratic socialists" believe in
Quote:
an economic system characterised by social ownership of the means of production and co-operative management of the economy.
Wide, or vague, enough to include what we mean by "socialism" and "socialist". So we could probably claim compensation under the Equality Act if we got sacked for our views.
This is the same tribunal that a few years ago ruled that "Trotskyism" is not a recognised belief under the Act as it was a "repugnant" doctrine (see: http://grayee.blogspot.co.uk/2010/02/trotskyism-is-not-compatible-with-human.html ). We had a thread on it here too, I remember.
