    up to 170,000 workers on strike in the six counties, today
    The BBC website does not mention the words ‘General Strike’, but that’s what this level of co-ordinated action amounts to (something we’re always told is illegal and impossible). As the article makes clear, there is a very unfortunate precedent for this sort of action in the North of Ireland, but it is interesting to see this level of action being taken, and I do wonder what sort of effect this could have on politics there.

    Especially as the block on devolution is part of the problem, I do wonder is a cross community TU led party might be an outcome?

    Northern Ireland is the only place in the UK where a political strike has been successful — the Ulster Workers’Council Strike of May 1974. Its organisation and methods, including armed militias, had all the characteristics of how some syndicalists and councillors see the revolution. However, it is not often mentioned by them as its aim was not that desirable:
