We've got an obituary for Castro on the stocks. It looks as if we should be preparing one for Chavez too. As they both claim to be socialists, and have considerable influence on critics of capitalist society in Latin America and elsewhere, we have some interesting things to say on both.

http://www.countercurrents.org/lopez120113.htmAnother article on Venezuala's future without Chavez that seems to vindicate Debs saying that if a Moses can lead you to the Promised Land, another can just as easily lead you out again. What is interesting is the conclusion which apart from the language and nuances to be expected by Leftists amounts to the need of majority support."The means of avoiding this will always be through the strength of the popular movement led by a truly revolutionary program. This cannot rely on small and tiny groups or tendencies that exist within or outside the PSUV…we must try out all means for exercising democracy and achieving the broadest possible consensus for allowing unity of action throughout the country."
